Consdier this, kids today are being raised in an electronics era. Should public schools start using something as simple as Power Point Presentations and interactive tools vs writing everything on white boards?

Should school books come with interactive CD-Roms or DVDs to enhance the learning process?

Are some of today's teaching methods outdated and require a complete makeover?

  1. It would be nice if the administration would give us more time for lesson planning if they're going to expect power point presentations on everything.  I barely get by now, and that includes all the time I spend evenings and weekends prepping.

  2. Well, if we take your premise as TRUE then where will you get the money.

Are they outdated? I don't think so. All you need do is watch a teacher and a smart board.

It going to take more of a mix. You can't ignore it, but, you can't turn it completely over to the computer.

Funding will be the hinderance. Nothing more, nothing less

  3. American High Schools are failing to prepare children to take their place in the modern work force. Just no other way to say it.

  4. In this technology age, new methods should be used.  Smartboards are replacing the  (what we considered cutting edge 10 years ago) white boards.  The Internet is replacing book research in libraries.

The days of the SRA are not gone completely though.  There are some good methods from years ago that still apply today.  The lecture/discussion approach cannot be abandoned.  Question/answer sessions are vital.  In other words, "don't throw out the baby with the bath water."

  5. i was a teacher in britain.

i brought over my ideas to a then new school in the US and became head of dept. i adapted some teaching ideas -

yes the white boards and clicker systems ( like multiple choice) do give u instant feedback but they  rely on teachers making sure of students explaining their work- that hasnt changed.

the dvds and cd roms are passive education- kids have to be active- either kinesthetic learnign  or visual for the knowledge to go in cos thats how the majority of kids learn.

    moderation of everything is needed.

the school is one of the top 50 in the US now.

  6. Beginning with this last school year, our county HAS to adopt 21st Century Learning.  Actually, our state does - another unfunded mandate!  Lovely
