Should Australia increase its shopping hours?

Question

9am - 5pm isn't enough anymore & thursday's late night shopping hour till 9pm doesn't stop the daily issue of having to get to the shops after work and etc.

Sure supermarkets are open nearly 24/7 but even things like banks and the post office as well need to get rid of their old fashioned trading hours and increase them, since they are needed more for a necessity.

If all retail shops are open till 9pm on weeknights, life would be a h**l lot easier!

Certainly it's more convenient to have such hours.  However, as a person who lives in the U.S. where such hours are commonplace, I can tell you that they come with a price tag.  If you're willing to pay what it will cost to keep them open, then I don't see why they shouldn't be open.

Absolutely, shopping centre should be open from 10am to 10pm, 9 to 5 is more to office hours, can't be the retail operating hours!

Would be good if they were open a little longer !

I guess its cause people don't always want to be working long hours everyday so they made a standard time ratio to keep everyone happy .. also you have to think of the crime rates d**n thieves some crazy people out there.

Yes I feel the same. We face lot of trouble with operating hours of public necessity services like banks,postoffice,etc. and also life seems dull as almost all business closes at 5pm.
