We should scrap all Aristocratic institutions. I wish everyone in this country would give me 71pence a year, that way i wouldn't have to worry so much about being exploited for the basic human requirements such as food and heat.

When you consider the goldfish bowl lives the Royals live, maybe we would be doing them a favour!

No, I think having president Blair,Brown or Cameron would be much worse that the queen. It helps national identity to keep the same head of state for a long time and if you compare the situation in France or the USA I think our system is better as the queen is apolitical and thus does not stir up feelings of hatred in half the population.

I think in Britain we should definitely separate the head of church and head of state though. We should be secular and not allow indoctrination of children in state funded schools.

At the very least there should be a referendum.

If the pro-royals really believe that the majority of people in this country want to keep the royal parasites they have nothing to worry about.

I rather think, though, that if a referendum were to take place the royals would be gone. And about time too, as far as I'm concerned.

yes and no. They really haven't done anything that significant for me. The only reason I like prince william is because hes a villa fan

I was going to post this question but 4 people got there before me.'UN: Should Britain scrap Royals?' is the Yahoo headlines, and one reason is for the way Britain treats certain immigrants. Well, that could be the bloke next door, not the queen! LOL!

Life would not be better for anyone if the Royals were scrapped. the 62p a week is so insignificant you could hardly buy anything with it - except 3 Milky Way bars.

This 62p a week, however, could be put towards something else.

However - what is the Queen supposed to do?

She, her family and her posse of courtiers are the custodians of a lot of our nation's treasures.

Do we want to scrap all those too?

So, if you do want to scrap the royalty how would you do it?

A referendum doesn't come cheap.
