  1. It's not his responsibility, it's Ray Nagin's the Mayor and the new Governor, they can ask Bush for help but because of states rights they have to ask. That's what happened the last time, everyone blamed Bush and not the Mayor or Governor who were ultimately responsible for what happened in New Orleans.

  2. Bush couldn't find New Orleans. LOL!

He'd wind up in Orleans, France.

  3. You should do it.

  4. One of the most prevalent myths about New Orleans and Katrina is the idea that "No one left when they had a week's warning".

Reality was that Katrina was forecast to go elsewhere until about 60 hours before landfall (the storm struck the Gulf coast during the morning of 08/29/05).  A comprehensive state of emergency was declared on August 26th and the evacuation order was given on the 27th.  More than 90% of the New Orleans area's 1,400,000 population was able to leave and the highways were empty by the evening of the 28th.  About half of those who could not or would not leave went to the Superdome, which was the designated shelter.

Most of the people who didn't leave or who went to the Superdome did so because they were subsisting on fixed incomes and couldn't afford to evacuate.  Realize there were almost no free places to stay before the storm hit, and FEMA didn't start paying for housing until later (AFTER 500,000 of us were made long-term homeless by the storm).

Emergency management experts believed it would take 96 hours to evacuate or shelter a city the size of New Orleans, but NOLA did it in 48 hours.

You should call the Mayor's office for the largest city close to where you live and ask them what percentage of the population could be evacuated or sheltered with 48 hours of notice.  I bet it will be a lot less than 95%.

  5. Yeah, he might as well get the National Guard in there now instead of waiting for their local government to do nothing and s***w everything up again.  Because he'll get blamed for it.  Incompetent local government, very violent population, it made for a real mess.

  6. I guess so because they aren't smart enough to do it themselves and their mayor certainly isn't going to do anything.
