  1. On what grounds?

Because gambling is 'bad' or 'immoral.'  Well sorry, but it is not the job of the government to decide that and impose this will on the people.

Also, let's be real for a moment.  If casinos were banned, Las Vegas and Atlantic City would become ghost towns.  And not in a good way.  You'd have well over two million people crippled by the sudden change in the economy.  Property prices in areas that benefit from gambling would plummet.  Literally a million people would instantly be unemployed.  Millions more who rely on casinos for an income, would also be hurt.

I don't see any scenario where banning casinos would benefit the population.

Frankly Americas gambling laws are already draconian, illogical, and inconsistent.  Why make them irrational and crazy by banning casinos?

  2. No, they should not, because in almost any place that has widespread legalized casino gambling, the revenue ends up being a major source of financial support and prosperity for the state (in fact, I think most states have legalized some form of casino gambling, although most of them still don't have it as prominent as major gambling destinations, like Las Vegas, Nevada or Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In the end, casino gambling works well for everyone. First off, the government makes plenty of money simply by taxing the revenue made by the casinos themselves. Second, in addition to the casinos making money, other industries, such as the alcohol industry, usually end up jumping on the backs of the casino industry, and making plenty of money (because very often when there's a demand for gambling, there's a deman for booze), which in turn allows the government to tax the profits made from sale of alcohol. Finally, casino gmbling can be a very attractive thing for a city, and it can generally attract a good deal of tourism to a city, which in addition to supporting the hotel industry, causes people to bring lots of money into the state, allowing the city and the state to do very well for themselves.

Besides, people like casino gambling. Why would you want to ban it?

Sometimes people suggest that there's something wrong with casinos because they're up on their moral high horse, and they suggest that casinos promote gambling, which is immoral, and bad for people. But the fact of the matter is that banning casinos isn't going to stop people from gambling, just like prohibition didn't stop people from drinking, so as long as people are going to do it, it's better to have it in the hands of legitimate business, so that it can be conducted according to industry standards, making it a less shady operation, and so that the government can make some money off of it. As much as some people hate to admit it, some of the most profitable industries, as well as the most universal/long lasting, are alcohol, pornography and gambling (prostitution too, but that's kind of illegal). The reason behind this is thet these are things that people want, and they're things that people are going to try to get, even if it's illegal. So what's the point of banning it when you can use it to your favor?

  3. No, because many people would lose their jobs. But  the number of poor, needy people that gamble to lose their money outweigh the number of people that work there. I honestly believe that they shouldn't ban casinos. Why are the needy people gambling there in the first place? Because they are tired of living their lives and want another life? Stupidity outweighs logic.

I don't believe they should bring gambling to places that do not have it. Guam is a territory that is trying to legalize gambling, but I live here and I know that people here are too irresponsible to have gambling here. Ever 4th person you pass on this island would think in their mind "Hmm. Should I spend my money on beer or food for my family?" Imagine what would happen if those people would gamble.

  4. Ban casinos, give a gangsta a job.

  5. not until i could find another job... i work at one!

i can see a few arguments to either side:

yes... they create problems for people who become addicted, a lot of people get very emotional about losing- i see both things every day working here

no... they provide a lot of job opportunities - there are thousands of people who work here... it's entertainment for the people who know how to come here and play for fun

  6. very good question... i have thought of that too.. but i thinks its yes and no...

yes, because it becomes addicting and people end up losing alot of things, money, houses, cars and self respect... but there is signs posted in the casinos if u are gettin addicted too bad, you can join Gamblers Anomyous..

no.. because there are so many people employed at them and its brings money home to them.. and i think on the Indian casinos it brings money to the people of its tribe..(not too sure about that tho)...

so its really hard to say... i go to the casino and spend my limit.. may lose and may be lucky and win...

  7. No. Because there is no legitimate reason to.

The two most common justifications are that gambling is immoral or that gambling causes harm. Neither are actually valid  arguments.

While I will concede that some conceptions of the good see gambling as a sin or immoral. That is their belief system but most countries are pluralistic and many of the citizens do not share the belief that gambling is a sin or immoral. The only countries that could ever legitimately use a morality argument are countries that have a very homogeneous population.

The second argument is that gambling causes harm. It does. As a professional gambler I've spent countless hours in casinos and seen so many people ruin their lives. That is unfortunate for them but they and they alone are responsible for their choices. It is not the function of the State to protect us from our own freedom and will. Once you open the door to paternalistic government it is a slippery slope to a point where the government is micro-managing citizen's lives. The harm from that is much greater than the harm from allowing gambling.

A third reason against it is that it is impossible. Even with legal casinos every city has underground illegal casinos. If the State was to ban legal casinos all that would happen is that we'd have more of the illegal ones.
