Question:

Should DNA tests to determine paternity be manditory upon birth?

If a man pays child support and then later learns that the child was not biologically his, the law states that the mother is not obligated to pay back the money she stole.

Manditory DNA testing to determine paternity could help alleviate this situation.

In addition, nothing is worse then a man being tricked into raising a child whcih is not biologically his.

Agree? Disagree?

As for costs, these should be paid for by the mother and father equally... unless the child is found to not be the biological offspring of the man. In this case the woman should be held fully responsible for the cost.

  1. I think it should just be a whole part of the labs they do on the newborn baby before discharging from the hospital.. I don't think that a father should be able to be put on the birth certificate unless he is the biological father, or if he goes through the process of adopting the child... I wonder how many men out there in this world have children that are living lives with a father that isn't their father... I think you have a good point... I think as far as paying for it... it should just be part of the whole hospital bill package...

  2. I would be so offended if someone asked my husband to take a paternity test after our child was born.  That is just wrong.  It should be the couple's decision or the fathers responsibility to make sure the baby is theirs.  If your lady is sleeping around you should make sure the kid is yours before you have to pay child support.  I see your point but maybe it could be mandatory ONLY before a man is required to pay child support.  I don't want anybody sticking uneccessary needles in my newborn.  Especially if it is obviously my husbands child.

On the other hand my step-dad pays child support for a son that might not be his.  I think he's scared to find out because in his heart he has always been his son and DNA cannot change that.  There is more to being a father than DNA and if you love a kid and believe it is yours you should be willing to support that child.

  3. I don't agree that they should be mandatory at birth for everyone. That doesn't even make sense. I too would be outraged at the idea of someone demanding such a test when neither the father nor mother have any concerns or doubts. That's just stupid and a waste of money. I do agree that it is messed up and wrong for women to trick men, but not everyone does that and not everyone needs such a service. It's insulting and degrading to force legitimate, caring couples to do this. I believe so anyway.

  4. i think your right, but i think that neither should have to pay and its part of the whole hospital, delivery deal.

  5. Yes, DNA test should be manditory.

  6. I think if someone has to pay child support, then they should automatically be given a DNA test, BEFORE paying any money.

I agree with what you are saying, but I don't think EVERY child should be tested at birth, then again if they did, I wouldn't be upset about it.

I really hope this hasn't happened to you, women like that are horrible!
