  1. No, why should he be?  He makes gutsy calls.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  He's either a hero or a zero.

EDIT:  I agree with you, Winter Glory.  In the same spirit, I'd like to see how Kyle would do without Steve Addington.  ;  )

  2. No. :)

    Go Dale Jr.!!!

    JUNIOR NATION!!!

  3. No. Competition is so much of a parity thanks to the inane rules the France family has come up with, this COT (Checker cab with a wing) has ruined NASCAR. It's so close that's why crew chiefs are being suspended for being a couple millimeters off on templates. I'm sure Eury & Jr discussed before hand the strategy before the race, they -Eury- rolled the dice together and lost, trying to gain a small advantage to help Jr win his first road course race. If the yellow hadn't come out, they would have been in great shape. It's the usual "hindsight is foresight" c**p I read.

  4. YES that was a the most stupidest call all year he needs a 3 week vacation

  5. Yes, but not because he isn't a good crew chief for Jr...I'll give you a candidiate fir his replacement. Alan Gustafson who's on Casey Mears team, they could really complement one another. Junior's natural and genuine personality would help Alan and Alan's experience and maturity would help Junior a lot. Another reason I say yes is the only reason he has stuck with him is because he is his cousin. I think they should let him go or swap crew chiefs...It would be easier with Hendricks team to swap chiefs because of the resources, It would not be like DEI's ill-fated swap, because the DEI clearly was in over their heads and thought the team was good enough to make the swap and their eyes were bigger than their team, Hendrick can do that with his organization.

  6. If I'd have answered this yesterday I would have said yes, but after thinking about it for a while, I'm not so sure. I really haven't been a huge Tony Jr fan ever since he replaced Pops, but I figured he'd bring some newer, more progressive thinking to Jr's crew. I was mistaken. Tony Jr has always been a conservative, wait and see, that's how its done kind of crew chief. Even Jr has given him h**l for it occasionally. But lately he's gone out on a limb and tried different tactics. In Michigan it worked. Yesterday was a complete and miserable failure. I'd say he certainly screwed up yesterday, but he is the crew chief for a driver in the top 12 for the championship. There's at least 31 other crew chiefs out there who can't say that.

  7. Yes.

By allowing Tony to "tag along" it did 2 things:

    1. Keeps Dale JR from reaching his potential

    2. Proves that Rick Hendrick DOES make mistakes!

  8. I say yes ! I can remember Jr's last year driving for DEI and he was fighting to make the cup and Eury said in an interview if we make it fine if we don't fine. Then Sunday he tried to lay blame elsewhere when he failed to have Jr pit and they got caught on a caution which essentially wiped out Jr's chances of a decent finish.

  9. No...since it was just a bad call...not a team hurting call.

  10. Well jr can't drive and Eury Jr can't cc. so i think it is a match made in heaven...

  11. Do a crew chief swap, put Tony Jr with Jeff Gordon and put Steve Latarte with Dale Jr, both of these guys are having some crew issues, Tony Jr and set up a race car (which Jeff Gordon needs right now bad) but Steve Latarte can make some good pit calls...Tony Jr has made some good calls this yr, somethings gotta give here. I hope this was discussed today at HMS..This cause Dale Jr atleast a top 5 finish..If he messes up like this again, I have a feeling he will not be at HMS or they will put him back in the shop.. Things better work this coming weekend in Michigan.. I know Dale Jr is big on family, but dang this was a major mistake on a pit call. I was having a fit.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  12. I don't think he should be fired. BUT I do think HMS needs to find him another crew chief. Maybe swap Letarte (spelling?) and Eury to see if they bring more favorable results for the #24 and #88. Sundays call was horrible!!! Tony Eury Jr is a descent crew chief...but JUNIOR needs to sever all ties with DEI including him....I was hoping that Gustafson would be his crew chief. I used to work with some of my family and it just didn't work out...we're better off seeing each other once a week not everyday. I imagine it could be the same way with them. They just need to work apart awhile and see if the results are better or worse...then make the decision...to fire or to keep. Just an opinion.

  13. If he messes up again I think he should. But there's no way Junior would allow it.

  14. Yeah they should fire him.  Then we'll be able to get him also at JGR and win some more races next year.

    He he

Heck.  Fire his hauler driver.  He has a better driving record then Denny Hamlins.  We'll take him also.

  15. I've answered this same question a few times, always with the same answer. No.

    However..

I've given it alot of thought, I think it's best they sever ties.

Not because of what happened yesterday, or any other mistake that may or may not have been made by Tony Eury Jr.

I have a different reason for believing he should be fired.

**What would be interesting, is for Tony Eury Jr. and Chad Knaus to switch teams next year, then we'd all know if it's the crew chief, or the driver**

  16. i say yes i hate JR  like really like i hate him so much that if he was on fire i wouldn't pee on him. but yeah that was a bad call by eury.jr only good call i seen eury do was MIS. but it was really great for us kyle busch fans cause i think JR had the car to beat he was very fast. but thanks travis kvapil for that caution for the rocks on the track i love it. go kyle baby

  17. yes, i think so. that mistake yesterday cost jr. his 2nd win of the season.

jr. could have about 3 wins this season if it wouldn't for him.

i'm saying this and i am not even a jr. fan

  18. Fire no, a serious talk yes. At least for now.

  19. LOL!!! Winter your funny!!!   The problem would then be and old school crew cheif and a 3 time? champ new schooler representing LOWES.

All I am going to say on this before I put it to bed is this.

If your outside the top 12 in points gambles like the one Tony pulled this Sunday are resonable. When you are second in points and have a car and driver that can win without these kinds of gambles you simply do not take them. Dale could very have well beaten Kyle and Jimmie and Tony this weekend. He has the car and talent to do so. But when your crew cheif gambles and you have to restart in 38th and race your way to the front making up what like 16 spots before he ran out of time (thats driver skill on a road course, not crew cheif). Tony made another costly mistake.            Family Values??? -VS- what........

  20. I would say yes but he seems to be better than my boys crew chief. He night make stupid calls but at least he can set a car up unlike Steve Latarte ! I was listening to Jeff's scanner and when the race started Steve told him he made some changes because he felt it would be overcast and Jeff said WHAT the car was perfect . And every one saw what happened after that !!!!!!

  21. No, But I do think they should randomly drug test him and see exactly what he was on Sunday that made him use such poor judgement.

    Really baffled me..

  22. Maybe not fired, but moved into a different position with Hendrick. Tony Jr. has a lot of know-how. He's good with set-ups and seems to be pretty good with the pit crew. He just makes bad tactical decisions. Junior will never be the one to make that call, it would be like shooting a good hound dog. If he does get the boot it has to come from Rick Hendrick himself. I don't think it's gonna happen this close to The Chase.

  23. Before you fire the man, remember that JR's only win of the season came of similar, daring pit strategy call.   He got lucky the first time and JR, won. This time, he got unlucky and Jr finished bad.

Its the same as a football coach calling some gimmick play, or going for it on 4th down.   If the team gets the first down, or scores because of the gimmick play then the coach gets called brilliant. If the play fails, then the coach is the biggest idiot ever.

Had That caution flag not come out, and Jr had a top 5 finish, then noone would even say a bad word about Tony Eury Jr.  If Jr had managed to win the race because of that call, then the question on Yahoo answers would be "Is Tony Eury Jr the best crew cheif ever"

edit:  also think about it from this standpoint.   As long as Jr finishes the next 4 races he will most likely be in the chase.  After the chase begins everyone gets the same number of points plus 10 bonus for each win they have.   So, anything short of a win yesterday could not possibly help Jr in the chase.  a top 5 would have helped Jr no more than 30th as far as the chase goes.  Basically, a win was the only way he could help himself for the chase.   Eury knew that, and took a gamble(same type he took for JR's only win of the season).  Had that caution not come out, Jr would have been hard to beat yesterday, and would have probably gotten the only thing that would really help him right now.   So basically, all Eury lost was a potential 10 chase points, and most likely had Jr pitted at the same time, Jr would have ended up with a top 5, but no win.

  24. Perhaps not fired, but retired. Some people should stick to what they know, but what the Earnhart jr/Eury jr team seems to know is how to lose a race when they're ahead. Give someone new a chance-someone who knows the new car and how to make it win instead of continuing trying old tricks that worked with the old car.

  25. I think dalejr4ever has a good idea, I like that maybe they should switch and see what happens but I don't think Eury should be fired!

  26. h**l Yeah! They have been together too long. Jr needs someone new, who will come in with fresh ideas and better strategies than Tony Eury Jr. They really blew it yesterday, even the race commentators stated that during the race. He made a bad call and should admit that he screwed up and not try to blame someone else for his mistakes.

    GO! Dale Jr. GO!

  27. No way, the call sucked, but fact is, Jr is still up there and will be competing for a title.  It was Tony's call that got Jr his win at MIS.  It's tough for a crew chief to sit on the box and make the best call each time.  It's because of how Tony sets up the car for Jr, that Jr is able to lead laps and run as well as he does.

Right now, it's all or nothing, as Ricky Bobby would say, if you ain't first, your last and that's what the attitude needs to be.  Chances need to be taken to cut into Kyles point lead that he'll have when the chase starts.

IMO, Tony is doing a good job, he's still learning the HMS equipment, and the further the season goes on, the more the threat it is for Jr to win.
