Should England bring in younger players?

Fielding younger players (I mean 18-21) has been the norm in India, and Pakistan mainly. England and Australia do not seem to be doing that much. Well, we can't say anything about Australia but what about England? They are at a low right now. But with Pietersen being made the captain, is that right way forward for England? Should the selectors give opportunities to untested young players who show aggression and passion?

We tried this approach (to a lesser extent) before.

After the 2005 Ashes we tried and tested a few young players

Liam Plunkett (who was 20 when first called up)

Sajid Mahmood (First called up in 2004 when he was 23, had a longer run when he was 25)

Alastair Cook (made his debut at 21)

Ravi Bopara (21 when he debuted)

Stuart Broad (20 when he debuted)

England's approach to playing youngsters in the side, has been careless in recent times. England have tended to get a talenetd youngster, call him up to the England side, play him, watch him suceed and then drop him at the first sight of bad form. For example all the players above except Alastair Cook.

My belief is that a talented youngster, should not be rushed into the side. All young players (even amazing ones) still need to learn there trade at county level. Look at Ryan Sidebottom for example, he was brought in for one test in 2001 and he failed, he then worked hard at his counties (Yorkshire & Notts) and he came back finally showing the potential he always had.

At the moment in England there isnt a 18-21 year old current pushing anywhere near the selectors door. We have a young bowler called Steven Finn who looks like the new Steve Harmison, but even though he has talent he shouldnt be rushed into the side, as it could hinder his development in the future. There's an opening batsmen called Joe Denly who has talent, and a Middlesex middle order player called Dawid Malan, but at the moment none of these players have done enough to earn a call-up

So NO England should not bring in younger players for a few reasons.

* Getting called-up and kicked out of the England side, can hurt a young players confidence and stop him growing as a player.

* England have enough squad depth in both departments, they dont need to rely on a talented youngster coming through

* There is no young 18-21 year old, actually good enough to play for England at the moment

Young or old doesn't matter as long as the team consists of JB Hobbs, Herbert Sutcliffe, Len Hutton, Wally Hammond, Peter May,  Ian Botham, Geraint Jones, Robert Peel, Freddie Trueman, Alec Bedser and Sydney Barnes.

Now that we know what we want, let us get cracking and find out the guys. One of them is still playing, of course.

They have enough 'young' blood within them, it's good to wait till end of season and then search among those playing county cricket (all forms i.e. county (4-day), pro-40, t20, etc) and try give one or 2 a chance.

No, they're team relies on experience to win matches. And also why would you want to replace the current team. They are doing a fine job!
