Question:

Should Euthanasia be legalized for anyone over the age of 70?

In fact, should we allow anyone, of any age, to end their life (by painless lethal injection) if they so wish? With obvious safeguards in place and a mandatory mental health check prior to doctors agreeing to the procedure. Should people be assisted in voluntarily ending their life painlessly and with dignity?

  1. Absolutely not. It'll open up the biggest can of worms this side of a fishing hole. Who gets to decide when a life is not worth living any more, and when? Are all imperfect people doomed? What defines "imperfect"? Plus, suicide is a sin.

  2. yes

  3. This is and always will be a difficult one, i guess i depends on individual opinion because everyone has their own feelings on the matter. In my personal opinion though, i don't think anyone has the right to play god...by helping someone die you are essentially doing gods work-even when you have that persons best interests at heart.

  4. No it should not be legal at all!!!!

  5. 70 is young.

    Leave it to individual needs.

  6. I feel that the option should be left open, but abuse is a strong possibility

  7. And then you'd have a plethora of cases where families offed Grandma legally so they could get their greedy paws on her estate sooner.

  8. That is one loaded question.  Having worked in the medical field, I think that Euthanasia would be a good idea.  There aren't many people that can understand this, though.  I have spend much time with people paralyzed from the neck down, intubated and on a ventilator 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Many of them begged for us to unplug the machine and let them die, but we couldn't do it.  Maybe one day this will become an every day thing, but not now.

  9. Why, are you getting close to seventy and in debt over your head?

  10. I believe in Euthanasia for anyone who is in severe pain with no hope of recovery.  Nobody should have to live with that, and don't tell me it's god's plan, that would make your god a cruel a hole.

*I mean being in pain as part of God's plan, that is a load.  I also believe Euthanasia should be a personal decision.

  11. should be compulsory

  12. In Oregon, a person of any age, suffering with a debilitating disease with a prognosis of a short term to live have the option for self assisted suicide if they meet certain criteria. This legislation was put on the ballot by referendum and voted into law by a majority of the people.

  13. No, do we live in the dark ages?  Life is more precious than people generally realise.

  14. No, I do not think euthanasia should be legalized for any reason whatsoever - in spite of a fancy name it is still murder, whether self-murder or by a "legal euthanisia practitioner".

  15. Who is 'We'?

btw you won't be asking this question when you are 71.

ps There was a sci/fi story written about a society where, as you were born, you were given the National Insurance number of the person you had to kill when you were 25. It also meant that someone was given your NI number.

So forget the whole idea. It is a bad one.

  16. there should be the option to do so under conditions such as terminal illness where there is chronic pain, however this is a complicated matter and may be viewed by many as assisted suicide

  17. Most definitely.  We can vote at 18..fight a war for our country at 18..can't die when we want to or how.  Euthanasia should be "our" choice.  We currently give our pets more respect by putting them down and letting them die with "dignity".

  18. I agree with euthanasia no matter what the person's age. If you allowed an animal to suffer you would be prosecuted and yet Doctors allow humans to suffer. Everybody has the right to die with dignity and be free from pain.

  19. mandatory for those that are 18-25 without a job.

mandatory for those on wlefare for more than 6 months

mandatory for those  that use illegal drugs

  20. no it should be mandatory for all people over ten, then the world

would be as it was meant to be and prime movers idea of death by cop is on the increase.

  21. If I live that long...and  still in my right mind....I say YES....I would like to have the choice...

  22. It should be mandatory!

  23. Obviously certain restrictions should apply to avoid abuse but absolutely yes! We do it for our pets when we don't want to see them suffer anymore! I would do it for a loved one even if it meant going to jail and I hope someone would do it for me if I had a fatal deseas and was in a lot of pain. It is the quality of life that matters.

  24. If a person really wants to die they are not going to ask for the state's permission.

Oregon has a good assisted sucide program.
