Returning from a “retirement” that lasted about 18 months, Henin was unranked and after receiving a wildcard from Australian Open organisers always threatened to be a dangerous floater in the draw. She reached the final at the Brisbane International in her first tournament back in competition, demonstrating she could still mix it with the best. Maybe seeding Henin would have set a dangerous precedent – but then how many players step away from the game as the reigning world No. 1 after having claimed seven Grand Slams?

  1. no way, what would she?

  2. No she did not deserve to.
  3. Brian
    Didn't deserve to?

Elena Dementieva didn't deserve to get knocked out in round two! Elena has played the best tennis year and has to play one of the all time greats in the second match of a grand slam

And the fans didn't deserve to see Elena and Yanina Wickmayer knocked out prematurely

I agree with KC - it was a big mistake not to protect the seeded players in Henin's section of the draw
