Question:

Should Hillary be promising to get all the troops out of Iraq in 60 days if she is elected?

Personally, I don't think this is possible nor practical. I like Hillary, but I am beginning to question her judgment because of this promise. Is she saying something she thinks will get her votes and doesn't really mean it or has she deluded herself into thinking this can and should be done?

  1. That would be irresponsible and it's not what she promised.

She said she'd START bringing them home in 60 days.

  2. We will probably always have a base there, but the war needs to be ended ASAP.  If she can do it in 60 days, more power to her.  But I don't think she'll win the nomination.

  3. Yes, that raised my eyebrow last night as well.

It is not practical to think that could even be done.  Makes me question her already questionable ability and character.

  4. No i think that is a promise she can not keeps because as you said it is practical and impossible

  5. 1) Surge is working.  It is working because the Sadr Militia has declared a unilateral cease fire.

    2)  We can get out now while we're winning.

    3) If they know we're leaving soon, they may maintain their self-imposed cease fire.  And we get out with violence down

    4) If we're committed to "stay the course III" They have no reason to quit and violence will return to pre-surge levels or higher.  And we will be "losing"  and will be there forever.

    5) The choice is, of course, yours.

  6. did she say that?  [I didn't watch.]

it is wildly impractical, unless, of course, she means to give most of the Army's equipment to Iraq.

  7. Even if she gets elected - withdrawing the troops from Iraq would be political suicide.

How would she counter mass resignations from senior generals?  (Remember that the American people trust generals more than politicians.)

How would she counter the charge that she is sabotaging Iraq's future by withdrawing American support Immediately Prior To the Scheduled Iraqi Parliamentary Elections?

How would she counter the charge that she deliberately lost a war for personal political advantage?  (Read the news from Iraq - we are winning.)

How will she mend fences with the Democratic Hawks, the entire Republican party and the Independents who will feel that she betrayed every person who has served in Iraq?

How long will it be before the military ever trusts somebody from the Democratic party again?  (The Democratic party antics over Iraq have really upset the people in the military.)

  8. She has never promised to get all the troops out in 60 days. She has repeatedly said she wanted to BEGIN deployment with the first 60 days. But that until she spoke with security advisors and military she would not be able to assess how long it would take to have everyone out.

  9. Her campaign's on the verge of a total breakdown....she's grasping for what little support she can muster, and she's letting populist lies.

  10. it is impossible to achieve and signs of a desparate politician willing to say anything to right a sinking ship...

  11. She can promise all she wants but she's not going to be elected so the promises won't matter.

  12. She never said it would be everyone in 60 days. She said in 60 days she would BEGIN to bring them home in steps. If you are going to bash a candidate, at least do it using total facts, do not twist what is said to fit your way of thinking.

  13. nope, it is logisticaly impossible

  14. I think she says she will start the withdrawal of troops within 60 days.  It will obviously take months to get all the troops out.

  15. All the troops couldnt possibly flee from there in only 60 days!

It would take at least a half of a year to gather all there equipment and start moving out!
