Question:

Should I, or do I; have to give half my jackpot winnings to my brother?

I took a recently divorced neighbor lady out for a break, and hit a very large jackpot. My brother paid for our night out as a good gesture towards the depressed neighbor. I am $100,000 in debt and do not own a home. If i pay off my debt and buy a modest $400,000 home, I'll be almost broke again. My brother is very wealthy. What do I do?

  1. Obviously, you're asking the question because you care about the relationship.  That's a good thing.  You obviously care about people which is cool.

There is no question that the money is all yours, technically.  The fact that you won it gambling may indicate that you could have some tendencies which may also make it easy to lose.  Very often people who win money gambling or in a lottery are in as bad or worse a financial situation five years down the road.

Your brother is apparently good with money.  Why don't you approach him with your needs, and ask advice.  Ask him several questions,

"Here's my fincancial picture.  How should I manage this money for the long run?"

"I'd like to give some of it to you as a thankyou for paying for our evening.  What do you think would be a fair amount?"

This could be one of the best opportunities of your life -- not only to strengthen your financial position, but to hone your financial skills, as well as strengthen your relationship with your brother.

    Take care and "good luck."

  2. Talk to him about it..

You don't have to but it would be nice.

  3. You won the money you keep it,  its not like your brother is broke!

  4. i would keep it. And maybe take him for a nice night out.

  5. Bs comes and goes but Give him $25K and take him out to play POOL !!! or bring him to Texas ill play both of you

My motor home needs a new battery

  6. I think that if ur bro really luved ya then he woudnt care. He's wealthy already anyways and you really need to get back on ur feet!

  7. LOL...modest $400,000 home?  Give it all to your brother and have him setup a trust fund for you.  Have him manage your money and give you weekly allowances.  Get a good job and pay off your $100,000 debt.  Once that is paid you can have him increase your allowance.  In the meantime, move into that divorced lady's home and help pay her rent.
