Should I Be Worried About Being Drafted In The War In Iraq?

Question

soon, this year i will be 18 and my concern is that i will receive a letter telling me i have to go to war. i'm a little worried, because i am still a high school student, i wan't to go to college, and i have panic disorder, but i have no papers to show that i have it. i just thought about this last night and since i have panic disorder its hard to get this thought out of my head. so should i be worried or am i just over-reacting?

you don't have to worry about a draft anytime soon...before the draft they have to run out of active duty, and reservists...and seeing as they are overcrowded in certain branches, you don't have anything to worry about

There is no draft right now.  Nor is there likely to be one.  The American people and Congress have learned that a voluntary force is the only effective force; if people who don't want to be at war are put into a war, they perform poorly and risk others' lives.

Besides, if there was a draft, you could do what thousands of young people did during Vietnam: say you're a conscientous objector (ie, your religious views prohibit the use of weapons to hurt other humans).

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningth... is a list of the disqualifying medical factors that prohibit one from enlisting in the US Military.  Chances are good that you have at least one.  Only 3 in 10 Americans of enlistment age are eligible to enlist in the US Military.

No that is not going to happen. I noticed you do not watch any world news, so to inform you, the U.S. is talking about a time line to get out of Iraq. (They are not calling it a time line but this is essentially what it is)
