  1. Why does it have to be one or the other?  Look into the Navy Reserve (I'll admit I don't know anything about the Navy Reserve but if its anything like the Army its a good option).

  2. Go to college and apply for a NROTC program. You will be a cadet in the Navy and it will be paid for. Then, you will leave college as a commissioned officer! I also hear the NROTC is really fun! You get like these summer programs that are a blast!

You will have to apply to schools that would have the NROTC option. Most if not all public universities will have either Army or Navy ROTC. Then, you will have to apply directly to the NROTC program. Good luck!

  3. Go with any reserve, college is hard to do with little help, trust me I know, its not easy, but you can make it on your own if you choose too. If you can make it though one whole semester and you get a great GPA, you can get more better scholarships, that's what i did. Just put my head in the books, did well in class. And then applied for other scholarships. And Financial aid, they will help you, try going to the FASFA website. Theres lots of things you can do, but if you must, any reserve will help you as well. Good luck, and trust me there is always a way.

  4. What career do you want to pursue after college?

Read about the Navy Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP), GI Bill and Navy Career on the blog I reference herein.

  5. As a Navy Recruiter I can tell you that the Navy is the best thing for getting your college degree.  All training you receive in the Navy transfers to college credit, you can take college classes for free while you are active duty, and with the GI Bill that was just passed, you will get a 4 year degree (from any state college) for FREE when you get out.  Plus the benefit of being able to put Navy vet on your resume.

  6. u can go to the reserve and apply for the college u want 2 go and they will pay for it all then after u finish collage u can go straight 2 the navy i should know i'm planning on doing the same thing

  7. College you do not want to put on every job application for the rest of your life that you were a military veteran!

  8. There's always the option of getting a job. My friend would work a semester to get tuition and then go to college a semester. She's now a CPA. There's loans available but it takes forever to get them paid back. You could work for a company that pays your college tuition as long as you maintain a C average. But then you can only attend part time.

Joining the military has its advantages too.

I wouldn't join the Navy though. The sleeping arrangements on a ship leave a lot to be desired. The first enlistment is usually spent on Sea duty and that's in port 6 months and gone 6 months. Consider the Air Force. The Air Force has Community College of the Air Force. Your job training counts as college credits toward an associates degree granted by them. Basically only general education classes and electives are required and tuition assistance pays for those.
