Should I Get This Head Unit???!!!?

My girlfriend wants to get me a new head unit for my car as a Christmas present. She doesn't really know much about car audio, so she asked me to pick it out. I have been wanting an alpine for a long time. I was looking and have decided that I dont need a cd player because of my ipod, so i just figured I would get a digital media player. I was reading reviews on crutchfield about the XDA-001. There was a lot of negative feed back, so I'm not sure. Also, it seems the only usb is on the back, that doesn't seem very convenient. How would I run my cable into the car? Through the air vent?

  1. The Alpine XDA-001 head unit is awesome. My buddy has one and he has had it since it was available and it is seriously amazing. The negative feed back could be anything-users that don't like Alpine, or users that can't get it to do exactly what they want, but i would totally go with that head unit in your car. With the USB in the back its not a big deal. My head unit has the USB in the back and the cable is run to the glove box (very simple wire running, and no hole drilling!). The idea of the USB in the back is so you can connect your ipod (or similar MP3 playing device), keep it hidden from thieves, and use the head unit to completely control the device. I have been using a head unit to control my ipod for years now and it works perfectly. As for the reviews on Cruchfield most of the people that gave poor reviews had super specific problems and from a few of the reviews the people sounded as if they never really liked Alpine so they seemed determined to find fault with the head unit. Anyway, that head unit kicks butt and would be well work the money.

Hope this helps with your decision.
