Question:

Should I Get the Horse?

It's Lauren here again. I have been a jockey in England for a while, so I know quite a bit about horses. My old horse, Sunshine, had to be put down. My new mother insists I get a horse. I am still deciding on what to get. I have three choices:

Thunderbolt: Strong Thoroughbred, bred from Barbaro

Coco Beans: Fast Thoroughloosa (thoroughbred and appaloosa), gentle

Sean: Beautiful Mustang, nicely bred.

They are all nice horses, but I want a good horse for both racing and steeplechase. Any ideas? What one should I get, and why?

  1. I would say Thunderbolt. If you want to do steeplechasing then  its good to have a  horse that is not only fast, but strong. Plus, Barbaro was known for having a lot of heart and hopefully he would have passed that on to his descendants.

  2. Definitely thunderbolt!  Yes racing and steeplechasers need speed but I would rather a strong horse that I could improve the speed with rather than a speed horse that doesn't have the strength to fight against long exhaustive courses and I don't think that the mustang will have the height for the jumps.  Just my opinion but have had extensive work with speed and endurance.

  3. sean, I love steeplechasing!

  4. I go with Thunderbolt, but I love TBs.

  5. I think that Coco Beans will be better at maybe more of a varriety of things from jumping-western pleasure. I have worked arounds appaloosas & owne two. I have just fallen in LOVE with them both. They have amazingg personalitys. Boht of mine have really good bloodlines & are VERY pretty for appaloosas. I just think you will have more "horse" to love & play with if you get a horse of two breeds. Hope I have helped. Ohh & my appaloosas both do eventing, english pleasure, hunt seat, dressage, jump up to 5', hunter hack, showmanship, western pleasure, barrel racing, roping, cattle work, & tonss more. Their ability is just AMAZING.

  6. lauren.. if you are a jockey, YA is NOT the place for deciding on which animal will make a you a race horse, and further, if you wish to ride in races, perhaps you are better working for a trainer and riding his/her horses. Chances of you racing a mustang bred, nor appaloosa X bred are incredibly slim, unless you do so at pony club.

or are you looking to purchase the horse and have it trained and ridden by someone else? if so, be guided by the trainer trainer you choose.

there is no way anyone can help you decide without knowing some form of each horse and breeding etc.. and even then they have to have a knowledge of the breeding lines you are talking about!

    good luck

  7. Sean. I feel this is a good horse. Idk why. I just have a lucky feeling. If you get big cash because he's an amazing racer, I expect you to split the cash! JK.

  8. Coco Beans sounds like the most pleasurable and companionalbe one if you want to pleasure ride and just enjoy the horse.

Thunderbolt will probably be faster if that's what you want.
