Should I Make Plans For Son?

Question

My son, Nigel is not outspoken, but loves to speak and loves to be spoken to and he's happy (in his "world" anyway), anyway, me and my wife have been making "plans" for him, we believe he has a future in British steel, he only needs a helping hand.

Should I be making plans for Nigel?

I think parents should make plans for their children to some extend anyway.

the child NEEDS to use other's experiences or he will be a loser in his life.

he should also get a chance from his parents to experience some stuff by his own.

you must consider what those "stuff" are

Not quite ...your son and you his parents all should help make plans ..he needs a say himself its his life

No, your jumping the gun. Just let him be a kid for now. Enforce homework, school, and things your son likes to do (sports, games, clubs, etc). He will know what he wants to do with his life, and honestly that is the only thing he will be happy with.

i love that name. my nephew was named nigel and he passed away last year. it sounds good to hear it again!  

it depends on how old he is. if he is young, young (5-13yrs) you are jumping the fast gun! this is the time to start finding out what his intrests are, between 13-15. they know more what they like & don't like.

if he is already interested in that, then that would be great to give him help and a push every now and then. what you do not want to do, is freak out if he changes his mind.that will only push him away.he needs to be able to choose his own life when the time comes. otherwise, he might stay with what you chose to make you proud, but become very unhappy. when you could have prevented that by just listening to him, to begin with. so my answer to you is,  you should be making plans WITH nigel. not FOR nigel. good luck!
