I shopped Home Depot last week. I was paying with multiple (5) store credit and their system had problems. Their computer screen showd the message "Cash $89.10" and the cashier wasn't sure if I owe them money or they owe me money. This morning, I recieve a call from Home Depot and they said I owe them money. I dont know how they come to that conclusion. They said their accountant has checked it. Should I pay this?

  1. Call for an appt. with the person who manages such matters at the store.  He/she should be able to show you the math, including the amounts of the various cards.

Best guess:  you owe the money and they shouldn't have let you leave the store without paying it.  Incompetent cashier.

  2. Do you still have the cards? What does your receipt say?

If you left the store and was not required to pay, then that's it.

If you want to engage them, go talk to a manager. How did they get your phone number and come up with the notion that one day AFTER you left the store you owe them money? Have them prove it.

  3. Do you owe them $89.10? If you do, then yes, you should pay it.

What was the total cost of the merchandise you bought? What was the total amount of the merchandise credits you used? Subtract the credits from the total cost, and that will tell you how much else you owe them.

    What does your receipt say?

  4. I agree with rtfm you should check how much credit you had before you used the card.
