Question:

Should I Take This Apartment or BEWARE of it?

I am in a rush to get a new apartment because of unforeseen circumstances. I thought that I had one lined up, and thought that I liked it, however, am now having second thoughts after reading 25 scathing reviews of the property management company who actually manage the property and additional ones of the realty company. Having said that, I have seen scathing remarks of even some of the most posh ones in the area. But, now, I'm afraid. I have not actually signed the lease yet, and now do not know what to do. What do you think?

  1. Take the reviews and the lease to a lawyer, see if he can find any loopholes, etc. depending on what the complaints in the review were. Follow all the rules by the book, pay rent on time, etc. Find out if the lease has clauses in it, like who repairs what and when, etc, Take the lawyers advice.

  2. Do not make too much of those 'reviews' you read.  While some may be legitimate complaints, most are from whiners who simply expect way more from management and landlords than they are entitled to expect.  As an owner of many rentals myself, I can attest that some folks think I should be their caretaker and babysitter, and I get complaints as well, justified or not.

  3. Don't sign the lease! Why would you rent from a company with such a bad reputation? It can only bring you grief. Is there a friend or relative you can stay with temporarily while you look for a better place?
