I currently have 2 small hermit crabs. They get along well together since they were tankmates at the store I purchased them from. I am thinking about adopting another hermie. I was told he was left in a shoebox in an empty apartment. And the lady who is taking care of him had him with another crab but had to separate the two because of fighting. I dont know any other details about the fighting or how mean the crab is. I have my hermies in a 10 gal glass tank. Should I adopt the hermie or no?

  1. if you are able to house it separate from the other crabs and you are able to handle it.  it would be great if you can give the little thing a good home.  :)

  2. The animal is probably just aggressive because of being isolated in poor conditions for so long. Isolate him for a while until he is eating and healthy again. Then bathe him in safe water with the other crabs. Put them in a safe enclosure where he can get to know the other crabs. For the first little while you may see some claws being raised and some anteni fights separate only if things look like they are getting out of hand. It is normal for a new c**p to push other crabs around. but trying to pull a crab from the shell is a problem.

I've taken in a crab that had aggression issues due to isolation now he's happy and social and lives with the other crabs quite happily.

  3. psh lol if you want to get bit...well i guess so...lol

there pretty easy to take care of besides when there shells fall of so keep extra shells!

  4. if getting this hermie is going to cause problems then i dont think u should someone else will adopt him and he will have a great home so dont feel bad lol you are perfectly fine with 2hermies
