I am having a destination wedding in Florida in 10 months. Should I call grandparents, family, and friends to let them all know or should I just send invitations. How early do I send them so people can plan to attend?

  1. For a destination wedding, you may want to a save the date with travel information immediately (plane tickets are SO much cheaper when you buy them way in advance). Then you can send the official invitation about two months ahead.

You may want to give your grandparents, or anyone else really special, a heads-up now, just so they can be prepared.

  2. Save the dates! Could be as simple as a postcard with your wedding date and location or as complicated as the save the date passports (link below) with massive travel information. I would send these out as soon as you can.

Invitations to go out at the normal time; 4-8 weeks before the wedding.

  3. For a destination wedding I would go ahead and skip etiquette and let people know asap but sending out the invites.

  4. Send the save-the-date cards/magnets in a month or two and the cards 3 months before the wedding. I don't think the same rules apply to a destination wedding. They need more time to coordinate and plan holidays, etc.

  5. Once you finalize the guest list, send out Save-the-Dates. This can be done around 6 months before the event (unless it'll be on or around a holiday). Then wedding invites are sent 6-8 weeks prior.

  6. You should send out save the date cards as soon as possible - when you book the location for the ceremony and reception. Most people nowadays need extra time to save up for trips like these with gas being sky high. Actual invites can go out 2 months before. But give them fair warning now so they can prepare.

  7. send invitaitions now to everyone but call the people you think will actually come ie: grandparents and very very close friends/family---money is tight these days so do not be offended if people do not come.

  8. invites are 3 months prior to the date of your wedding

  9. You can send out Save the Date cards 6-8 mos. in advance, and then send out the invites within the normal 6-8 weeks.

  10. You could send save-the-date cards out now, so they can start planning to attend, since it's a destination wedding and they need the advance notice to save up and book their accomodations, etc.  Then send the actual invitations about 6 weeks prior to the actual wedding.

  11. Since you are having a destination wedding, and if you would like family members to attend, I would send out save-the-dates about six months ahead of time, to give everybody the head's up.  These typically just tell that you are getting married, on what day and in what location, and then say that a formal invitation will follow.
