Question:

Should I apply again to be an Air Traffic Controller?

I applied back in february to be an ATCS (trainee) and took the at-sat a month ago, got a 96.5 and haven't heard anything. However, I got an email today that was linked to a new job posting that's open to the general public--basically the same thing i applied for back in february. So, should I apply again, or is that redundant?

  1. The new developmental controllers at my facility generally say that is was between one and three months before they heard anything after the AT-SAT.  Your score is fine so at the rate new people are being hired, you should hear something before too long.

  2. Not sure, i would try contacting them first before re-applying.

    Good luck!

  3. It depends on the situation. You need to keep an eye on the FAA website to see if/when you make the Referral List for the posting you applied to. If you make the Referral List you may/may not get an interview. If you get an interview (if all goes well) you'll have a final offer a month or so after that.

    Reasons to reapply:

    1. Just incase you don't get put on the referral list this time around it'll give you more chances. This does not mean you have to retake the AT-SAT you're score is good for the next year and will automatically roll over to any/all applications you've done.

    2. If you've changed your mind about the locations you applied for before, you'll want to reapply and select your preferred/additional locations.

    3. Just incase you get on the Referral List, but don't get an interview. Again it can help your chances. Now they may do numerous Referral Lists and notifications for interviews off of just one job posting. So if you don't get an interview the first time around or make the list there will likely be more cycles before they close out that posting completely.

I am in the process now. I just had my interview 2 weeks ago. Have a tenative offer (waiting on my background stuff to go through) then should have a final offer in the next few weeks with dates for OKC. I have made referral lists numerous times for the same posting before. Sometimes you'll make the list and sometimes you won't. I have also been denied the Referral List recently on the posting I am currently being hired under. Which is funny b/c I've already had the interview, yet they posted Referral Lists again and I didn't make it this time even though I already have an offer letter. It's govt. for you. I'm more than a year into the process. Chances are you won't be that long, they're making adjustments to speed up the process for everyone.

Be patient, otherwise it's probably not the job or employer for you.

BTW-They sent the ATCS job link to everyone who has applied before with the FAA. So don't think they sent it just to you implying that you needed to apply again!
