Question:

Should I apply for NROTC (marine option) or wait until the middle or end of college?

I've been thinking about doing NROTC (Marine option) and becoming a marine officer. Some members of my family think that committing in my senior year of high school is too early though. But there are many benefits to doing NROTC instead of PLC or directly going into OCS after college. What would people who have done these or are in the Corps recommend and why. I know its personal preference but i would like some advice.

  1. It's ALWAYS best to do anything that might get you a leg up in the military. It most certainly is not too soon because after 4 years, you may decide it's not for you as opposed to waiting until after college and having to stick around longer than you would like because you are an officer.

  2. You would want to check with a NROTC recruiter. . . AFROTC requires a minimum of 2 years or participation (which would require doubling up on ROTC classes both years).  Not recommended.

I don't  know if NROTC has similar requirements...but its worth looking at.

  3. the sooner the better
