Question:

Should I ask for more money?

I work at a charter school and recently my principal asked me if I would move to fifth grade. There are two new teachers there and a sudden opening, since the third 5th grade teacher just quit. School is about to start - in less than a month and the principal says other than me, he has no good candidates for the position. Is this a good time to negotiate more pay (to get me to the state standard - 6000 dollar increase, actually) and if so, how do I professionally do so?
