Should I ask for the copper pipes back to recycle?

I had a plumber come in and install a water softener and iron filter. In the process he removed all the copper pipes just in the area and replaced them with PVC (including new lines to the outside spigots and from the pressure tank). They were supposed to leave the copper pipes, but instead took them (probably lack of communication from their boss). How much could these be worth, and is it worth it to bother to ask for them back?

You should tell the boss. Demand your copper pipes be put back in for free.  You should have the copper pipesQ!

He didnt take enough to be worth your time. Probably a pound or two, worth maybe 7 bucks.

It is worth while for a plumber, because they save it all up and return a lot at once. With gas prices the way they are it isn't worth your time and effert. You might end up with 20 bucks and spend 10 to get to the recycle place and an hour of your time. I would let it go. Would have let them have to copper to begin with. You won't get rich beleive me.

With the price of copper  at $3+ the scrap is worth some change, but unless you have quite a lot of it the hassle is not worth it. Did he get more than 10 lbs? the scrap price to you might be $2 in that small amount. The amount he got might have been 2 lbs.  Hardly worth asking us about it.

Recycled copper is running about $3 per pound in my area....

It is possible it was a lack of communication...

I'd at least call their boss, and tell him what happened.  Either ask for the scrap metal back, or have them give you a refund check.

I'd make them put the copper back in.You paid to be made whole (like for like) and was not.If they balk sue them for theft(3Xdamages plus court cost)
