Question:

Should I ask my dentist for a brace or retainer?

I'm going to the dentist tomorrow, and I wanted to ask him about some problems I'm having with my teeth;

On the top, one of my teeth kind of sticks into my mouth, causing it to rub against my tongue and make it extremely sore. Next to it, one of my front teeth is slightly higher than the rest, and tilted. Neither of these are very noticable, but they bother me.

On the bottom, one of my teeth sticks out more than the rest, causing the two behind it to rub on my tongue, causing yet more discomfort.

Should I ask my dentist for some kind of brace or retainer that could help fix this? Or is there some kind of procedure?

I'm also 15.

  1. umm i think he would have told you already if you needed braces or a retainer.  maybe ask him to make a mold of your mouth and see what he says from there.

  2. Your dentist will be able to tell you what options are available for your particular mouth needs.  For me, I had to have braces, but a lot has changed in the 10 years since then.  You may be able to use invisa-line.

  3. Don't ask for a retainer or brace, ask him what you need instead as it might be something completely different

  4. Your dentist should refer you to an orthodontist, who deal with braces and retainers. It's best to get it fixed now before your wisdom teeth come in at around age 18-20.

  5. it depends..

if you are very consistant and responsible..im guessing retainers should be ok.

but if you are like me who forgets to wear her retainer or breaks it or loses it..then braces might just be for you.

  6. Just tell the dentist exactly what you have written here (print it out and take it with you).  Let the dentist decide what to recommend to help you.

  7. if i were you i would just talk to me dentist about it and see what is best for your mouth cause hes the dentist and he knows whats best for you. if he doesnt really do anything for it i would go to an orthodontist and check it out. so when you get to the dentist, tell him about it and let him check it out

  8. braces, i think would be the best answer. Just ask him what you think your doc. thinks is best. He should go over a few options for you .. good luck

  9. I don't think you pick... He looks at your teeth and figures out which one is right for you at that time.

  10. retainer, braces can be sumwhat hard to handle

  11. well i am 17 and i had both braces and retainer i think that invisaline is the best way to go because when i was younger i had a wierd tooth sticking out and it was up in my gums like higher than the rest so yeah ask them to eather pull it if its a baby tooth or ask them to give u invisaline i use invisaline for my retainers so yeah ask about that and tell ur dentist that u are way uncomfortable and he/she will help u fix it

  12. Yes

  13. Talk to the dentist they should be able to help you.

  14. get a retainer they r easyer an involve less pain and u can take it out

  15. a retainer could fix the problem..but you'll have to go to an orthodontist for it. have him take a look and tell you what you'll need. also, get a second opinion! -you don't want it to cost you a fortune if it doesn't have to!

    best of luck!

  16. well i dont think u pick

but if he lets u the best to get is probaly the reta iner because it is much more lighter then braces and more comfortable

so i think the retainer would b best
