Should I ask my parents for a new board?

I saw this sick board at the shop, and it's totally better than mine. Should I ask my parents to get it for me. They may just be a little fizzed out, because they've bought me so many things for my surfing life. So should I venture into uncharted waters and ask them. Please help me, I'm super confused.

PS. The board is incredibly SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Yes, of course.

Depending on how you think they will react, prepare your argument and be prepared to negotiate.

You may want to explain why the new board is better suited to your ability and type of wave you are riding. Ex: "I've gotten better and outgrown my other board."

You may need to work out a way to pay them back. You could offer to pay interest. They might appreciate your respect and understanding of finances as they are paying interest on their house/credit cards. You could pay off $700 with monthly payments of $60/mo for a year.

In any case, make it clear to your parents that you respect them and don't take their generosity for granted.

  2. ask them to pay for the board so the other guy doesn't get it and tell them that you'll pay it off because you don't have the money right now

  3. Why not get a job?

  4. tell them that you can pay about half for the board and that you can buy the fins, leash and traction pad. it worked for me.

i did the same thing and it work. know i have sick board

  5. your best bet to help your parents out with saying yes you can tell them that you will help pay for it and you will get a job and work hard. if you don't want to get a real job yet you can do chores around the house not easy ones like making your bed but more indepth like helping fix things and stuff like that..work hard and be nice to them and ask. Trust me I know from experience it works! all you have to do is work and be nice and you have your board!! ...good luck!

  6. Offer to pay for half

  7. You're going to hate this one................

I started surfing in 1966 at 14 years old. In that time, I have owned DOZENS of surfboards. When I was a kid, it was the era of the shortboard revolution, so my pals and I got a new, shorter board, very summer. I have owned new boards, used boards and boards custom made for me.

NOBODY EVER BOUGHT ME A SURFBOARD. I went out and worked to earn the money to buy them. From I was a little kid (yes, 14 year olds can earn money, mowing lawns, running errands, baby sitting etc) until now, that I am a grumpy old man.

Get a job, and buy whatever surfboard you want.
