Question:

Should I ask this customer to tip?

A regular customer tips generously but last time he forgot even though the job was extra demanding. Is it in bad taste to ask for it considering it's optional? It cost me gas and time for the work, but I don't want to ruin a professional relationship either by coming across as working hard just because of his tips which help a lot with my income. Should I just shut up or remind him or what?

  2. You should absolutely not ask for a tip.

  3. NOPE!! NEVER!! never ask someone for a tip !!!!!!!

  4. ARE YOU SERIOUS?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!  THE PERSON IS PROBABLY AS BUSY AS YOU, IF NOT MORE SO, AND FORGOT.  HOW CAN YOU CALL THIS A PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIP AND THEN TALK ABOUT ASKING HIM FOR A TIP.  HOW UNPROFESSIONAL IS THAT?

YOU KNOW WHAT I ACTUALLY DO NOT CARE IF YOU REPORT ME FOR A VIOLATION.  THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST DISGRACEFUL QUESTION I HAVE EVER SEEN ON HERE.  YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF.

  5. That would be unbelievably rude.  A tip is optional, it's up to him what he wants to do with his own money.

  6. Wow, you are some piece of work.  Wish I knew who your customer was I would show him this question and your comments.  Despite all the comments on here you still have this arrogant attitude and think you are right.  As you asked "should I just shut up". that is a great idea.  SHUT UP and go away and hang your head in shame!

  7. Never ask for a tip. There may be several reasons behind him not tipping this time but since he has tipped in the past it shouldn't be a big issue. It will only look bad for you if you asked for a tip or bring up the fact he didn't tip last time. He could have forgotten or been short of cash bringing it up may just make him feel bad and accomplish no good. Or he could have not tipped on purpose and if thats the case bringing it up will only cause him to get angry and feel disrespected. A tip is completely optional and should never be asked for. If he continues to not tip find somebody else to help him or drop him as a client if you are able to. If not then just suck it up and continue to do your best. Don't forget he will most likely mention his experience with your services to other colleagues so mentioning a tip may endanger possible future jobs.

  8. I think if you ask for a tip it will be your last time and very distasteful.  Sounds like you have a good professional relationship.  I have no doubt you are a hard worker and do your job regardless of who is tipping.  That will shine through everything and who knows, maybe you will get more customers that will become regular as well. More people will appreciate you in the end.

  9. I dont think its very professional of you to ask, if he's a regular, he might have been tight with money that week, and couldnt tip. I hate it when i'm a regular at a place and I expect better service, knowing that i will come next week. or next day. And the waitor or waitress treats me like im their sister and can attend me last because i'm nice and come everyday. Maybe he felt that way and was extra demanding, and at the end he decided not to tip. ( i do that sometimes)... The waitor or waitress knows that you'll continue coming therefore ignore you, and come serve you last. I just hate that. If he continues NOT to tip, then maaaybe you can slip a little comment, or sarcastic joke.

I forgot to mention that last night when I went to dinner , i left the woman a 5 dollar tip and I noticed that in my bill the food was 50 dollars but she charged me 59.00, i asked why she charged me, and she said it was tip. I was completely outraged because I had ALREADY left a 5 on the table. She took the nine dollars off, and i told her she can shove the 5, i'm never going back there.

  10. I would not bring it up. He may have forgotten.

  11. I think it's distasteful to ask someone for a tip.  If he usually tips you, I would just overlook this one time.

P.S. If you are concerned about travel expenses, talk to your boss about the possibility of being compensated for mileage.  If you are your own boss, then you have the option of including this in your fees.
