Question:

Should I ask to have my knee bent 90 degrees before I have a full leg cast applied?

I wore a full leg cast for 12 weeks this spring and I had a terrible time getting in and out of cars. I am tall and my cast was really long. On thursday I have to go back into a full leg cast. I am wondering if it would be easier to get in and out of cars with a 90 degree bend at the knee. Would that cast be uncomfortable to wear?

PS for girls who have worn a cast:what color do you think is the most fun to wear?

  1. Wouldn't that mean you can't walk with cruches? I think it would look silly, personally.

  2. the 90 degree would be better while sitting down i would imagine, butit may throw you off balance, i know when my sister had a full leg cast, it did and her leg was hardly bent, you should just sit in the back seat, slide in backward, keep your leg on the seat if you must, to get out, just slide out forward, and i say, bright colors are fun, but be sure it is light enough to have people sign (i wonder where signing casts came from anyway, it is kinda odd, don't you think??) well, good luck!

  3. nope, you want it in the "neutral" position so that all your muscles don't get shortened and you have to do even more pt than you would otherwise

  4. If you have your leg at 90degrees it is going to hurt if u stomp it on the ground on accident and you wont be able to move it at all and you will be screaming.

Just do it the normal way so you dont lose mobility.
