Question:

Should I be a Democrat or a Republican?

I am neither Democrat or Republican. I am not really religious either. I have never voted in a major election. I was raised an orphan, but recently came into a large amount of money. I have an advanced degree, but am not a professional. I have never been political, nor have I ever cared about any specific political issues. Now that I am getting older I would like to embrace a set of political values, the correct values, and join either the Democrat or Republican party. Which should I join and why? Please don't ask me what I believe should just fit that particular party's beliefs. Please let me know what each party stands for and why, and also why it would be best to register and vote as either a Democrat or a Republican. Thanks for your honest and genuine responses as respective party members, please no facetious or "smart alec" answers-just genuine ideas. Thank you.

  1. You should be Republican-- this party believes more strongly in you keeping your money.

Traditionally, Democrats believe in less government interference into our lives and Republicans want more.  Either way could be good or bad, however democratic views tend to tax higher income earners more and hold stronger "blue collar" views and look down upon big businesses.
