I recently brought my car to Meineke for a computer diagnostic and they gave me a whole bunch of codes for my car. I want to know if anyone thinks I should be able to trust them.

Codes:P0122,P0115,P0134,P0171,P0303

  1. Wow, drive it to autozone and let them hook up to your car and compare notes, it's a free service and will tell you the story, autozone don't have a dog in that hunt, so see if they get the same thing. they will also tell you what each code means and what the part cost.

  2. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU GET A FEW FAULT CODES - IT IS ADVISABLE TO CLEAR THEM ALL - DRIVE THE CAR - THEN CHECK THEM AGAIN - SOMETIMES IT WILL ONLY SHOW ONE OR TWO THE SECOND TIME AND THIS HELPS TO NARROW DOWN THE PROBLEM

WITH FAULTS  - ONE FAULT CAN CAUSE ANOTHER AND ANOTHER AND THIS IS HOW YOU HAVE FIVE OR SIX CODES

  3. Trust them to pull codes? Sure...I doubt thet made these up.

Trust them to accurately diagnose & repair your car...that would really depend on the experience of the technician who would be doing the work.I'm assuming you went there because you "check engine" light is on.Just because there are 5 different codes stored does NOT mean you have five different problems.Code P0303 indicates a misfire on the #3 cylinder...if car runs good (smooth engine) computor probably picked up on a "hiccup" and no further action would necessarily be needed. As a person with a lot of experience, when I get one in the shop with that many codes,I recommend clearing the codes, test driving,& scan again if/when the light comes back on.Then perform specific diagnostics on whater code returns. If there are multiple problems, the light may come back in the future...if it does...start from scratch (perform diagnostics on the specific code you have now).

To answer your question "can I trust them"...most mechanics ARE honest....they just might not be familiar with your specific car.DON'T let them "throw the book" (meaning recommend everything that could cause any of these codes to come on).If they do that they either are trying to cover their butt,or relieve you of your money.

  4. PO115 = engine coolant temp. circuit malfunction, PO122 = throttle position sensor/switch A circuit low input, PO 134 = O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (bank 1 sensor 1), PO 171 = system too lean (bank 1), PO 303 = cylinder 3 misfire detected

  5. Take to a local shop for a diagnostic and see if they come up with the same thing.  A lot of times a local shop is cheaper then a chain owned shop.
