  1. "Im not sure what the laws and regulations are"

How can anyone guess what the laws and regulations are where you work, when you didn't even tell us what *country* you are in, let alone what State or Province?

  2. In my opinion, you shouldn't be doing this alone. You should have at least one other staff member with you, even if just as a look out to ensure you aren't attacked.

Your boss obviously must trust you, but he should still ensure your safety at all times.

    Good Luck. X :-)

  3. This is something you need to discuss with the owner. If you are not comfortable closing up by yourself at night, ask if someone else can work with you, or change your schedule so you are not closing up.

As for laws about this, I have never heard of any, unless you are a minor (I assume you are not, though, since you work in a bar). But, there may be local laws where you live on this subject. Check with your local city hall or sheriff's department to see if they know of any for your area.

As a last resort, if there are no laws about this, or the owner doesn't want to change the schedule, you can have a friend meet you just before you close up.

  4. I think that there is a lone worker policy and as it seems that you are a female then I would suggest that you ask for someone else to be present as well

  5. You should probably have 2 people to close, however if a criminal wants to commit a crime, does not really matter-they will take the opportunity whether there is one person or 2.

  6. why you scared of the dark

  7. From a health and safety point of view no  it would be more sensible to have two people but it depends on the company policy and procedures and risk assessment

  8. In the UK this should be covered under Health and Safety.  Your employer should carry out a lone person risk assessment and put measures in place to reduce any identified risks.

At my place of work, if someone is working in the building on their own then they should speak with another nominated member of staff every hour.  The purpose of this is so that the company knows that they are OK and nothing has happened to them (i.e. been taken ill, been involved in an incident such as burglary or fire).

This is also the same for people who are out on the road working on their own, although they do not have to make contact every hour - normally after every appointment.

Another poster writes that if a crime is going to be commited it will be, but if there are 2 members of staff present there is more chance that one will be able to raise an alarm or something.  Or if you one is taken ill there will be someone there to assist.
