Question:

Should I be compensated for a restaurant mistake?

I ate out at an expensive restaurant who overcharged my credit card by $10 more for a tip than I left. I questioned it and they confirmed the mistake and claimed they take that kind of thing seriously. The GM is calling me tomorrow. I was inconvenienced by calling my cc company. Should I ask for a gift certificate or something? I am pretty laid back on these types of things, but I wouldn't mind a little something if it is due to me.

  1. yea ask y not?

  2. well theyll probably wanna giv u 1

  3. it matters not whether it was an honest mistake, which is certainly suspect since it occured when the TIP was entered in.that happens after you leave, the server will add tip into cc machine usually when not real busy,or at end of shift.i have seen this done accidentally AND intentionally.but regardless it was THEIRE mistake.and you have been inconvenienced and a bit offended that this would happen to a good customer like you.explain to General Mgr(only speak to the top boss) that you want to be assured in the future that you can trust that your dining experience be better in the future,or you will choose to take your hard earned money to another establishment.

  4. If the $10 was refunded to your card, then the mistake was corrected and nothing more needs to be done.

  5. I wouldn't ask for anything. Everybody makes mistakes, including you. It sounds like they're nice enough to admit it and take responsibility. If they argued, then that would be different. Walmart overcharges me, and I don't ask for anything. What's the difference?

  6. They may offer you a gift certificate for the inconvenience, but it may have been an honest mistake... might depend on how they see it.

  7. i would deffinately ask for a refund or gift card.. you wont be being rude at all... they understand the mistake and that its your money. just say something like "im not one to complain, but i was overcharged and was wondering if i could get it back by asking for a gift card or the amount back in cash, whichever would be convenient for you." as long as your polite they will probably be more then willing to give you back what they owe.

  8. Quit trying to get something for nothing. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone is trying to get something for nothing. Sue, sue, sue, that's the

American way, I sorry to say.

  9. A fine restaurant did that to us once, my hubby complained BITTERLY, and the manager gave him a signed business card where a "comp" meal with Champagne would be given us whenever we wanted it. We finally used it FIVE YEARS LATER (she didn't date it). ...Not all bad things turn out bad!  Go for it! If he's a GM worth his salt, you won't have to ask!

    Good Luck!

  10. That happen to us in Red Lobster one time, they over charged my hubby about 15 dollars. They said they would replace it which they did but never gave me nothing. And to top it off we still go there..LOL..but we pay cash now.
