Question:

Should I be concerned about Global Warming?

It seems like I hear so much stuff from both sides of the argument (mostly the Gobal Warming will kill us all side) but I really am not a scientist nor an expert on the field. Should I be genuinely worried about Global Warming? Or is it natural? If I should be worried, what should I do about it? And if I shouldn't be worried, why not?

  1. Of course you should!  You should also be concerned about the safety of Santa Clause, the health of the Easter Bunny (all those evil hunters, you know), and start activism to force the authorities to install Leprechaun Crossings on all the roadways and highways.

  2. I'm proud to see most people here don't buy into global warming - and Mike, it has nothing to do with the ozone layer - that is a completely different hippie disaster senario that was being spread around in the 1980s - now its global warming - in 20 years it will be something else

  3. Ahhhh its outside my window.!!!

  4. Yes you should. And for those of you who love to talk about how the earth is in a constant cycle of warming and cooling, if you did any research then you would know that the earth should be moving towards a period of cooling not a period of warming, but you would know that because I'm sure you've done your research.

  5. Yes, but not because it will kill you.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

So, for you, the problem will likely be an economic one.

By the way, it's very real.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

  6. you should be worried about it even if it is natural!

all the evidence so far points to a large (2/3 at the moment and getting bigger) human caused (anthropogenic) component, which we could and should try to do something about.

unfortunately, even if we did start now (and there is little sign of our great leaders doing anything soon) the damage we have already done in stripping soils of carbon (1/2 of all of it in the last 50 years how crazy is that!) and forests (ditto), and doubling the atmospheric co2 levels, will last for centuries.

and that is not counting all the positive feedbacks that kick in once their individual 'tipping points' are passed; i think we have already passed a few of those. forget greenland ice sheet, amazon and siberian permafrost, they're gone, man! and get ready for 1 m sea level rise in our lifetime, with the 2 billion odd refugees that will create. if you have anything worth stealing, start learning martial arts now....

so yes, be worried, we are in for interesting times.

  7. It won't kill you in your time. Don't worry about your grandkids either.

  8. No you should not be worried.  Read the book "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism".  Yes, man does pollute but it is nothing compared to what a volcano can do when it erupts.  All the threat of global warming talk is more about power and socialist world government.

  9. Global Warming is when the Ozone layer desnigrates and it leaves the earth unprotected to ultraviolet rays, pollution meteorites, asteroids, and other natural space occurances. It also tampers with the weather and seasonal changes. Nuclear factories are the main cause of the death of the Ozone layer, cars and other machines and factories that, depend or make fossil fuels.

  10. "global warming will start 2 days before the day after tomorrow"

    south park is awesome

  11. yes but its kinda already happening. but it also said its notthat bad right now. b/c of ppl recycling etc. but yes u should atleast believe in it, it already happend on the earth b4 some of us were even born. global warming is happening in the artic where polar bears live, they are dieing b/c the snow is melting. i wish the zoo would gather up all the rest and save them. and we need more treees, so get planting....lol. but its true lots of ppl are cutting them down watch whem theres none how r we gonna breathe, plants and trees are the main thing on earth...to keep us breathing.......

what u can do to prevent it is to rycycle, use less electric, not to use the car so much (gas), cleaning products hurt the envirment, plant more trees, not litter

  12. We all should be.

  13. No!

  14. i don't believe people can keep the earth from warming or getting colder it is always a good idea to keep the air as clean as we can.worrying is a worthless effort if you want do something do it and forget the worrying .

  15. No, the earth's temperature  is cyclical. It has been much hotter in the past. I would be concerned more about cooling.

  16. I dk, i guess it's really up to you, don't listen too much to the media, after all, they blow things way out of proportion, just do your own research and figure out what really is going on. Then deduct from your own research, your conclusion.

  17. global warming isnt 100% proven but they are pretty sure its happening

in a thousand years or so it will be a big problem if its really happening

one of the other theories is that we are still coming out of the ice age

global warming will not make a big difference in your life but it may in your great great grandchildren
