Question:

Should I be concerned about a possible health problem

I notice recently that my 16 month old has started to sleep for longer hours during his nap, and sleeps great during the night (he use to wake up with the slightest sound...happy about this part). Yesterday when I went to pick him up from daycare, she told me that he slept for a good part of the afternoon, and she had to wake him up to eat. He doesn't seem sick or tired when he's up, but when he sleeps, he sleeps for a long time. Should I be concerned that he has started sleeping longer than usual.

  1. He may be sleeping longer, but how is his actual quality of sleep? I work in daycare and we have several toddlers who sleep LONG hours at nap time because they don't sleep well at night. And your kiddo may sleep a good prtion of the night, but maybe he tosses and turns a great deal. Or he may even wake up several times and just lay quietly. You can always check with your doctor for peace of mind about this, but I really wouldn't be worried.

  2. He may be having a growth spurt. My son sleeps a lot when he has one. If you are worried, call the pediatrician. You know your child better than anyone.

  3. id say ''sleep brings on sleep''

the other day my 20 month old had no nap all day,,, so guess what?,, she woke up all through the night

and when she had a good long nap she will sleep well all night

if your child is well otherwise then dont worry

there would b other symptoms if he is sick, like weightloss, loss of appetite, lethargy and weakness, pale skin, and other unusual things

and another thing,, at 16months theyr so busy,, wearing themselves out! lol

sometimes a virus can linger on,, i myself get a week where im tired everyday,, normal stuff, xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  4. He will be just fine.  He is probably going through a growth spurt.  My son did the same thing when he was a baby.  So does my niece and nephews.

  5. go to the website called babycentre.com, and look up the sleeping patterns for 16 month olds.  I find this site very handy when im concerned about anything to do with my children.  Otherwise i would consider you take your baby to the doctors.

  6. he probably is just fine, but talk to your dr.
