Question:

Should I be concerned about my chest being tight when running?

I'm about 10 pounds overweight. I've had allergies and low grade asthma over the years. I usually prefer walking or low impact exercise like yoga for my regular exercise. When I try to do high impact exercise, my chest hurts and I get winded. I had respitory problems in the past including bronchitis, and pneumonia (many years ago). My husband said to push through it because it's just a sign of being out of shape. Does it sound like it could be a health issue and I should avoid strenous exercise, or could it improve if I keep at it?

No rude responses please.

  1. I wouldn't push through before seeing a doctor.  What your describing could very well be a result of your asthma condition or simply the fact your not in shape yet ...... or it could be the symptoms of a heart problem.  Get a doctor to clear you and then if he/she says it's ok, then you'll know it's just normal discomfort and it's safe to push through.
