I"m thinking about moving from Los Angeles,CA to Portland,Oregon. The section of Portland I want to move to has little public transportation so I need a car in Portland.

My 1999 Toyota Camry has 101,000 miles on it. Is it a bad idea to take a car like this on a 1,200 mile driving trip?

  1. Sounds risky.

  2. My car is 36 years old! I have driven it on long road trips to different states several times. You shouldn't have any trouble.

  3. Yea right... a toyota with 100,000 miles on it is like a ford with 1,000 miles on it.

  4. DONT DO IT

your screwed if it breaks, and the distance your going is probably going to blow your car

  5. NO

  6. naw drive that man who cares

  7. Make sure you do a checkup before you take it on the trip, don't wanna get stranded on the interstate.

  8. It should be fine. I bet that car would get another 30,000 miles. Toyotas last a long time.

  9. I had a buddy whos camary had a lil over 200,000 miles on it, dont worry about it, toyotas are very reliable, and as long as your car has not had any major problems lately you should be good!

  10. No, it's not a bad idea, just don't be surprised if you have to get a new car when you get there

  11. you should be good! just get triple A to be safe

  12. Not really toyota camrys are very reliable cars, i have a toyota corolla 9 years old, 100k+ miles and i havent done one repair, and i drive  all day long  100 miles, sometimes ice had for about 1 year+

  13. No

I once saw a Camry with 875000 miles on the original engine. If its well maintained you shouldn't have a problem.

  14. If your car has had the proper care and routine maintenance, it should be fine. I would recommend a good mechanical inspection before you decide to make a long trip. Tires, fluids, belts, hoses, wipers, brakes, battery, steering and suspension, to name a few, should be checked. Does it use or leak oil? do you follow the maintenance schedule for your car? You can find it in the owners manual.

  15. This shouldn't be a problem.  Another way to look at it is to ask whether you think this car could get you through the next five weeks of normal driving, since this is about the distance your car goes in five weeks.  In a way, it's less than that, because the trip to Portland is almost all steady highway driving, which is easier on a car than stop-and-go.  Have it serviced and tell your mechanic to check for anything that could go bad on a long trip.
