Question:

Should I be concerned or not? ?

About three years ago, I developed a severe eating disorder in which I'd consume about 300-600 calories per day and excessively work out. I skipped my period for months at a time because of this, and although I'm starting to become better, consuming about 1,200 calories per day, my periods are still sometimes missed but not usually. I never worried about this until recently. The guy I'm with and I are beginning to talk about starting our own family and I'm concerned that because of this issue, I may not be able to conceive a baby in a couple of months from now. Is this possible solely because of my former issue and if so, what should I do?

  1. Well, if the average person needs about 2000-2500 calories a day to sustain they're body weight, then you need even more while you are pregnant!  At least an extra 300 calories daily will sustain a healthy pregnancy!  But if you are not healthy yourself, then your chances of becoming pregnant are not too good!  Even though I haven't had a eating disorder... I've always been tiny.  I weighed 105 pounds before I got pregnant with my son and gained 28 pounds while pregnant!  He came out weighing 6.5 pounds and I was back in my regular clothes 6 days later!  But even though I was getting soooo big in areas I never had any weight before... it was wonderful!  The minute you find our your pregnant you can't wait to start showing!  I would just try not to worry about the calories so much if you want a baby!  Your body will change and get bigger but trust me... you will loooove it!  And my body looks just like it did before and I also have a beautiful son!  I wish you the best of luck!  I hope my answer has helped you hun!

  2. What you described happening in the past is unlikely to affect your fertility. However, irregular periods may be due to not ovulating and if you are underweight (BMI below 19.5) then this can lead to not ovulating. Being at your otpimal weight improves your pregancy chances.

Calculate your BMI below and find out.

  3. i would speak to your dr someone that knows your full medical history and the trouble you had in the past as they are the only ones able to ask all the information needed to answer such a tricky question and you know they are qualified they can send you fro tests if they are needed as asking people online we dont know much about you and we may or may not be qualified if that makes sence i hope for your sake you can still have kids but be prepared it doesnt just happen even if you are both healthy and well it can take months/yrs for some people to concieve so best of luck and just enjoy trying and dont get to down if it doesnt happen first time
