I'm 16, and whenever me and my sister sleep in the same room, she tells me how I keep her awake at night, grinding my teeth "louder than i can imagine." I also wake up a lot in the mornings with a really stiff jaw...should I do something? If so what? And should I see a dentist or a regular doctor?

  1. You could ask your dentist, but I don't know that grinding your teeth really hurts anything.  My husband grinds his teeth amazingly loud in his sleep, and his teeth are pretty perfect.

  2. Yes, you should get a night guard, you can get it from a pharmacy type place......otherwise you will ruin your teeth!

  3. you should go to the dentist that can cause alot of damage

  4. Yes you need to see a dentist. If you continue to grind your teeth it could cause gaps to form in your upper or lower teeth. Basicaly you just wear the teeth away.

  5. Go see a dentist they will fit you for a night gard! it helps you stop grinding your teeth

  6. You should go see a dentist to get fitted for a guard to wear at night. It is really bad for your teeth. I think there are some for sale at pharmacies, but they will be much more comfortable if you get one that is fitted to you.

  7. Welcome to the club, ugh. LOL.

I have the same problem and have for years. The only thing i can really attribute mine to is stress/repressed emotions. My mom has the same problem, so it could be genetic. I think there are other things that can cause it though

But in the meantime...see a doctor to see if there's any physiological stuff going on, and a dentist will also fit you for a mouthguard to wear at night. It takes some time to get used to, but you'll eventually learn to sleep with it.

I also have TMJ, i'm not sure if its caused by the teeth grinding, or the teeth grinding is caused because of it, but chiropractic HAS helped it.

  8. Your probably is most likely TMJ problems. The best way to take care of this is to go to a chiropractor.

  9. you should see the dentist... teeth grinding can root away your teeth you need help you should probably get a mouth guard for at night
