I quit a job that i hated as a dental assistant and have decided to start a house cleaning business with my mother. I'm really excited about it, because we will be our own boss, however i have been really worried about what people will say. I know i can make more money cleaning houses though. Thanks!

  1. not at all. its your job, and you are excited about it... plus all of the perks, like you said... you and your mom are your own bosses and more pay :) my mom used to clean houses for a living too. and she enjoyed it- until she got a little too old for it, and it started to take a toll on her back. anyways.... no need to get embarrassed by it. -- if anyone says anything bad about it, mention to them the benefits.... and they will realize... hey, that's better than i thought. :-)

  2. Don't worry at all about what people will say. Most people admire your courage and commitment. You are doing a job that many people do badly (or can't do at all). More power to your elbow, I wish you every success.

  3. Why would you be embarrassed about this?   A hooker, yes.  A bank robber, yes, just to name a couple.   My students and I read a story last week called, "Never Worked and Never Will."   It was about a man who was a woodcarver who loved his job.   That is the secret to success, doing what you love.  I teach and love it and get paid for it.  If it makes you happy, and you are doing nothing illegal or immoral, go for it.  The sky is the limit.

  4. No, in fact, I never become embarrassed, because if something happens to me---------then it has happened to someone before me. I don't quite understand why cleaning houses should make you feel this way-------unless you plan to allow the thoughts of others dictate how you feel about a job. It's a job, and in this day and age many are still looking for work.  Just remember : People are Tators-----Demostrators: display and show proof ; Denigrators: point out laws; Illustrators: clarify by giving or serving as an example or instance; Illuminators: bring out the truth from the darkness; Procrastinators: put things off  intentionally or habitually; Spectators: looks on and watch; Commentators: reports or discusses what's going on; Dictators:controls or try to control leadership without thought of others or other opinion; Opinionators: pass judgement which is not open to dispute; and Immitators: who follow as a pattern, counterfeit, take a model, copy, mimic or try to resemble.Identify your Tators and stop the madness. Just be happy doing what you want to do and you'll be much happier.

  5. Please do not be embarrassed about cleaning houses for an income.

I have had many house keepers over the years. I have only had one that I trusted and was very pleased with her performance.

If you can get a good reputation, you will make a good income.

    YOU GO GIRL!

  6. who cares what other people think. tell them you value a clean house and therefore want to do it as your life's profession.  Tell them you make more money when you clean houses.

  7. Not at all !

  8. You can't ever worry about what people think or say. Do you enjoy what you do ? Can you pay your bills? If the answer is yes then that is all that matters. Added bonus; it's your own business and you are your own boss. Good luck with the new business!

  9. Not at all. When people ask what you do for a living simply tell them "I own my own House Cleaning Business".. the first two words "I own" will trump anything that comes after it.

Even the guy down the street who programs computers will envy you. He HAS to get up at 6 o'clock every morning and fight rush hour traffic rain or shine to get to work on time -- and he has to worry about layoffs, pay raises, transfers, bonuses, all the usual pitfalls that come with working FOR someone else. You don't.

Trust me. You'll have more people that want to be in your shoes than you think.

  10. There should never, ever be any shame in earning an honest living - and that's what you are going to do. You should take pride instead in doing a good job that you enjoy.

There will be people, however, that will look down on you for your career choice. I think that those are the folks that you are better off without anyway.

Congratulations on finding a job that you like!!!

  11. Well, nurses clean up people's bodily wastes all day long, but I am never ashamed of what I do and proudly call myself a nurse.  You and your mom will be performing services that are in great demand. Think of how grateful your customers will be.

Real life is that you have your own business and are your own boss.  If you do a fabulous job consistently and charge fairly, your name will travel around by word of mouth and your schedule will be full in no time.  If someone askes what you do, tell them you have your own house cleaning business and hand them a business card!

Kudos!  Wishing you the greatest success!

  12. Good Lord! You really had better get your mindset straight. It will affect your well being. My husband was a garbage man for years until he was promoted. Paid good money. Even if it didn't pay well, he was still providing for his family.

People need their homes cleaned and someone to do it and yes, you will make a good dime if you have any business sense,

You should not be embarrassed at all. And just imagine, before long, you may be an employer sitting back watching your business thrive!

I would tell everyone I ran across what I did with business card in hand!

  13. It´s a honorable job and hard work often at late hours - that commands my respect. Don´t give a dam about what others might say. You´re an entrepreneur now.

And speaking about your old job´s social prestige: Everyone just hates to meet a dental assistant at a party having to think about their next visit to the dentist. Good Luck!

  14. Not at all - I know many people who have started very successful businesses cleaning houses. I think it's great.

Wish you lived in my city - I could use some reputable people to help me out!

  15. No I wouldn't be ashamed. Follow your hearts desire and do what you enjoy doing. Sometimes it is better to be happy and you don't have to deal with the politics or dirty mouths of patients who choose not to brush their teeth.

  16. There is nothing to be embarrassed about.  It is a very respectable way to make a living.  I think it's great that you had the gumption to start a business.  Who knows, this may be the start of something big.
