I went on holiday with my dad to Chamonix and bought my mum an expensive box of chocolates (45 euros). They were wrapped up in the shop and my dad said he would bring them back because I was going home by plane and he was driving. Basically my mum unwrapped the paper opened the box and the chocolates were full of maggots and had laid loads of eggs. What should I do?

  1. Life has many experiences. Learn and move on. If it makes you feel better, call the store and complain. You may get a sympathetic and proud manager/owner who'll sincerely apologize and replace them without a second thought. But you may get an owner who doesn't care. Prepare yourself either way. Buyer beware.

  2. Yes, your 45 euros.

  3. Call the store and tell them what happened.  They should happily offer you (at least) a gift certificate for what you spent.  Understandably, you probably don't want to go back there, so you should push for a refund in the form by which you paid.  I'm not sure what the legalities are in this, but any business owner/manager with any sense would offer you a refund.
