Question:

Should I be freaking out as much as I am now? Lost my social security card...?

I KNOW I shouldn't have been carrying my social security card in my wallet, but I did because I was applying for a job. I lost my wallet and called every single place I was at, seeing if they found it, but no luck...I am freaking out because I have EVERYTHING in my wallet. My license, my credit card, my social security card, and a bunch of other various id's that can easily be replaced. I am so worried that I am very vulnerable to identity theft, that is the LAST thing I need in my life right now. Today I got a new driver license and canceled my credit card, but am still really insecure about this whole situation. I was wondering if anyone has been in this situation and what are the best steps to take

  1. First calm down. Did you call where you applied for the job? You can put the account on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They will notify the other 2 bureaus for you. I has to be renewed every 90 days to keep it active. Social Security has a fraud dept. Their toll free # 1-800-269-0271.
