Question:

Should I be happy with clear retainers when my brace is removed?

As my upper and lower brace is costing alot of money I would like to be sure that the orthodontist is giving me the best not the the most convenient. I've read lots of disadvantages of having the Essix retainers.Fixed retainers sound a good option aesthetically. If they break can the dentist repair them or do I have to go to the orthodontist? Is this why he doesnt suggest them?

  1. I went with Essix on top and bottom. The other removable ones would not work. The problem with lower Essix is that some teeth on lower jaw may settle lower than the rest. I wish I had the wire cemented on bottom jaw to stop that from happening. Essix on top is perfect, no problems at all. Remember though that the cemented ones require cleaning like you still have braces. All retainer repairs are done from orthodontist.
