Question:

Should I be worried? Birth control/possible pregnancy/ period ?

I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo birth control. I started the placebo pills on Sunday and it is now Wednesday and I haven't started my period yet. Should I be worried about this?

I am sexually active with my boyfriend and we do not use condoms. I do sometimes forget to take the Pill and then take two the next day.

Has anyone been in this situation? Do you think it's possible I am pregnant? Or maybe my period is just randomly late?

When do you normally get your period while taking the placebo pills?

  1. Does your period usually show up earlier than Wednesday?  When I was on oral contraceptives mine often wouldn't start until Wednesday.  I think it's a little early to be worrying about pregnancy - I'd give it a few more days at least and then if your period still hasn't shown up you might want to get a pregnancy test.  I'd especially advise you to not worry about it too much if you've been stressed lately (though the most stressed I've ever been was the one time I was really late, of course), or if you've been changing your schedule lately, because these things can affect your hormone levels.

If you regularly forget to take a pill, you might want to consider switching to a form of birth control that doesn't require taking a daily pill.  There are plenty of options out there besides condoms (the shot, NuvaRing, the patch, IUDs, etc) that only require you to do something once a month or so - it might be worth the peace of mind to switch.
