Should I be worried about my daughter's hamster?

My daughter's 3 month old hamster got out last night. We fund her in my daughter's closet sound asleep, but she obviously fell off my daughter's dresser in the process of escape. It's a good 3 feet down. Now, the hammy is slow to move (she is usually speedy quick), but does move around in her ball and climbed on me for a bit tonight. She seems almost sweeter than before if that makes any sense.

Can she have hurt her back or something? She I be concerned?

  1. She probably is okay...three feet isn't that big of a drop for her, but you might want to take it to a vet to see if it is okay. You don't need an exotic pet vet. A normal vet would be able to tell you if it was harmed. It probably got out and was just scared/frightened by it's new surroundings. At most she may have hurt her leg or something of the sort. If her back was messed up she couldn't walk and would probably have died already. But if you want to be safe a normal vet would be able to tell you. I hope she is okay...Good Luck!

  2. i think hamsters can deal with longer drops.  i had a hamster that always seemed to get out and run around and find places to climb on.  they have very poor depth perception so they fall off of things very often.

  3. My friends hamster ran off my hand a while back (about a four foot drop) and it got a fright. It wouldn't move and didn't try to run away so I picked it back up and left it in it's cage. The shock wore off after a while and it went back to normal. She is probably fine but take her out and handle her for a few minutes. If she hurt her back, you will probably be able to tell.

  4. nah its fine. the fall doesnt hurt as much for hamsters because they are small and weigh less so the impact isnt as big as u think.

my hamster used to run off tables and chairs and everything and it still lived a good 3 years =)
