Question:

Should I be worried about my dog?

Like should I be planning a trip to the vet's tomorrow...or tonight...

I put him to bed in his crate about an hour ago... I was just settling down in my bed when I heard him whimpering I got up to turn the light on and see what his problem was when he barfed... I cleaned up the barf, chalking it up to him eating something bad while we were at the park today, when he barfed again and then before I could do anything about that had diarrhea in his crate...

now I'm getting kind of worried... he does get diarrhea occasionally, but he's never gone in his crate before and he hasn't ever barfed before...

he's outside right now... in case he does anything else while I'm cleaning out his crate again...

  1. This typically means that he did get into something weird.  I would try to keep an eye on him and keep in hydrated.  Try to get him to drink water out of your hand if he is not interested in his water bowl.  Do not feed him any food or treats tonight, or tomorrow morning.  He needs to get his condition back closer to normal before he gets food again.  Dark stool often is dark because it does have blood in it, so keep a close eye on his stool.  If you let him outside, walk him on a leash so you can see what it looks like when he goes.  Do him a favor and take him outside frequently throughout tonight so he doesn't have to mess his crate anymore (going in the house can be very stressful for well-potty-trained dogs.)  Keep an eye on his gums- that's a good way to know if he's doing well.  If his gums look nice and pink and wet, he's doing good.  If they become pale, I would call the vet and get an opinion.  If he seems okay, just keep a close eye on him for tonight, and if you make it through without calling an emergency clinic, give your vet a call first thing tomorrow.  Good luck, I hope your little guy feels better.

  2. I WOULD TAKE HIM TO AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL ASAP.VOMITING AND DIARRHEA WILL LEAD TO DEHYDRATION. I'M NOT A VET BUT SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG.  GO!

  3. Keep watching him. Dogs sometimes eat grass to settle their stomach. If the barfing and diarrhea continues then call or take him to the vet.

  4. Usually the dog should be better after doing all that. What I would do is make certain he has water, and in the morning see how he is. A dog can go for 3 or 4 days without food, but needs liquids. If he hasn't eaten  in say a few days, take him to the vet.I hope he's had all his shots?

  5. You should at least call a vet first (maybe a 24 hr vet hospital)

They will help you decide if it is necessary for you to bring your pet in to be examined

Better to be safe than sorry if your pet continues to be having these problems

  6. You're already worried about him.  I'd be worried too.  Like you said, this isn't normal for him.  Taking him to the vet will hopefully make you both feel better.

  7. Definitely take your dog to the vet.

  8. I would call an emergency clinic and get their opinion.  Just in case it is something serious.  Any idea what he may have gotten into?

  9. Make sure he is hydrated, take him early morning

  10. if there's a 24h vet clinic I would take him.  otherwise get in first thing tomorrow morning.  Maybe he had too much grass or has some kind of poisoning?  Hopefully he didn't get into any chocolate?

    Definitely take him ASAP.

This could also be an age thing but a sudden onset seems strange.

  11. hi no its nothing same thing happends with me

  12. I would keep a close eye on him.  I would take him to the vet in the morning.  He probably ate something bad or too much meat.  My dog once ate too much meat, my husband was too generous over Thanksgiving, and she was sick for a week.  I had to feed her rice.  Too much meat irritates the bowel.  But I would definitely go to the vet first thing in the morning.

  13. I would personally just call the vet and let them know whats going on and they can tell you what to do. The main thing you have to worry about now is the dog getting dehydrated. If you can, give him some pedialyte or low sodium chicken broth. Having both diarrhea and vomiting is fairly uncommon together so I would definitely want to get it checked out.

  14. I WOULD GIVE IT MORE TIME, I KNOW YOU ARE WORRIED I WOULD BE TOO, BUT DIARRHEA AND VOMIT AREN'T THAT ABNORMAL, US HUMANS SOMETIMES HAVE THOSE PROBLEMS TOO, AND ITS NOTHING TO RUN TO THE ER ABOUT....HE MIGHT HAVE JUST ATE SOMETHING BAD, OR HAS A BUG (DOGS GET SICK TOO)....I WOULD DEFINITELY WAIT IT OUT, EMERGENCY VET VISITS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE!!!..

IF HE VOMITS OR POOPS BLOOD, OR SEEMS TO BE AN A LOT OF PAIN, THEN I WOULD PROBABLY BRING HIM!!!....JUST KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON HIM FOR AWHILE LONGER!! GOOD LUCK

  15. hes probably gonna drown

  16. what does the vomit and diarrhea look like? is the vomit yellowish and smell horrible? and is the diarrhea really bloody and also smelly? if so, this could be parvo and your dog needs medical attention now. let me know what it looks like and i will post again!

  17. if you have a 24hour vet take him now. he could have gotten into something that he should not have. they can take his temp and do a quick blood screen.

  18. Yes I would call the vet right now!!! Atleast tell them what's going on and they can help you better!

  19. Hi...I have been in your shoes many times, (I have three dogs)...If there is a 24 hour vet hospital, I would call, get their opinion, and then ask what their flat rate is, (The cost of the visit, and to basically walk through the door)...any and all meds will be over and above the price they give you...I'm not saying your pet isn't worth the money, but they can be costly, and it's always best to know what to expect, ya know?

After that, access your puppy...is he feeling better?  Has he vomited more? Is he drinking for you?  Another thing I have been asked to look at are the gums...If the gums are white and void of color, that means the dog may be dehydrating...If the pup is outside, he/she may eat some grass...It is supposed to help the stomach, but just watch.  When my dog experienced similar symptoms, I did take him in to the clinic at 3am, and he was given some meds and a bag of fluid...The doctor told me it was a viral infection of some kind, and told me that his temp was up...I personally thought it was worth the money to take him in...to me, I felt more comfortable knowing what the problem was...Good Luck!

  21. That is normal, just put him outside. He will start to eat grass. If he barfs again don't clean it up he will start to eat it, that's like their own medicine.

  22. It's not often that they will get both at the same time. I'd watch him for a few hours and see how it's going. If it doesn't get better then I'd say try for tonight. But if it does try and get him in tomorrow.

  23. Give him a spoon of olive oil with a little bit of lemon.  Also since he has diarreha you buy otc pedialitis so he won't dehydrated.  Buy a little bottle in the 99 cent store or a surynge and try to give him water.  If does't get better don't way too long, take to the vet asap.  How old is the dog?.  Because my sister's dog started like that, she didn't have control   of her bower movement but she was 16-1/2 year.  Don't let the dog outside to keep an eye on her. Since she vomitted maybe she will better tomorrow, but I would mentioned the fact that is having diarreha. I hope your dog will be Ok.  I love dogs.

  24. it may be stress

it may be something he ate

in any case..i would just keep an eye on him. check to see if he is dehydrated (pull up a pinch of his skin and it should snap right back...if it goes back slowly, he is dehydrated). if he is offer him some water. (he may throw it up...but at least you know he is trying)

i would give it until the morning. as long as he is not mopeing around too badly---and he is acting somewhat normal.

if it continues to get worse by tomorrow afternoon/night take him to the vet

  25. Get him to the Vet as soon as possible, at least ring and ask them if you should bring him in.
