Question:

Should I be worried about my kitty?

I had to take him to the vet today. They said that they'd need to observe him for a few hours without me there.. There are dogs there too in cages.. Last time they had to give him a shot, he had to have this one thing put on his mouth to prevent him from biting.. I felt sick with sadness looking at him.Anyways, today when i took him there his form said "May bite!" on it.. Should I be worried? will they treat him badly? Should I call him in an hour to see how he's doing? I cant seem to focus on anything, because I havent left him anywhere without feeling bad..What should i do? Will my kitty be alright in their care?

  1. You can call and check on him. He'll be fine. They put those signs on the cages for their protection but they won't be indifferent to him for it. I had a cat who would swat and bite and I always warned the vet about her. Good luck to your cat. Hope he feels better soon.

  2. I ALWAYS  call my cats or go in and visit them when they have to stay at the vet's for longer periods of time.

I have a cat that hasn't had a physical examination in three years because he will bite, scratch, and outright scream at anyone that comes near him while he is there.  They get his shots done as fast as they can, but he won't consent to anything more than that.

They won't treat your baby badly.  They just want to make sure that you're not the reason he's pitching a fit. He may just want to get your attention, so he may be calmer without you there.

And the warning on the form is just a warning.  They need to let all their techs know so that they won't get bitten.

Cats just do things their way, so it's important to remember that they show it if they're distressed.

But yes, I would definitely call in to check on him.  I do it alll the time, so the office is used to me by now :)

  3. It really depends if you trust the doctor you left him with. Look for signs. Are the people there friendly? Are they handling the other pets well? If your not sure or feel uncomfortable maybe call in or maybe even go there and check on him. Most likely he will be fine... if there is no other pets there except for 2 dogs it might be a bad place because they are not getting a lot of business. I have a dog and I always feel sick leaving him at the vet, however I know he will be okay because all the staff there are extremely nice. Don't worry about it.

  4. call the vet every day to ask how is your cat doing. you shouldnt be worried, your cat will be fine.

  5. its the vet. they always have your pets best interest at heart. they are there to help, not hinder. if you are so worried about him, why would you take him therein the first place.  its alright to be over protective, but there comes a point when over protective crosses the line to obsession.  he will be fine.  be confident and look forward to picking him up.
