  1. By all means take your cell phone with you to the Philippines.  When you arrive purchase a local SIM card and change the card with the one already in your phone.  You will be able to make local calls and text using the Philippines grid system.

You will need a transformer to recharge your phone because of the electrical currency being different than the US.

Globe is the best service I have found.

    Mabuhay!

  2. If your primary interest is taking pictures, you can buy a disposable digital camera at CVS/Walgreen's/Etc.  That way, if you happen to lose it, you're only out about $10.  It'll probably take way better pictures than your cell phone anyway.

  3. Well, on arrival you will have to buy a SIM card. If you aren't careful, a lot of asian countries steal phones nad what not, I have some experience with that. So if it is a nice phone, I wouldn't bring it. Just buy a disposable and scan the pics to put on myspace or a digital cam these days are quite decent in price as well.
