Question:

Should I build an underground room in the garden

I have a problem with noise. My neighbour often plays a drum kit and is constantly slamming doors etc. Also police helicopters often circle in the early hours of the morning. An underground room would give a peaceful place to sleep and should be warm in the winter. A good place to hid if we have a nuclear war as well!

The cost should be less than moving which may not solve the problem anyway

  5. I suggest you collect a few bids from local contractors.  Your concept is simple, but the construction costs will surprise you.

  6. I love your idea, An underground room would be cool, Id love one!!! You should maybe chill a bit about the noise issue though. I live in a terrace and hear everything, but get used to it and live and let live. Or you could move to the country?

  7. It would be MUCH less expensive to make a sound proof room in the basement.   Try drawing up some plans and getting a permit, you'll be back in the house mighty quickly.

  8. For what it would cost you to build an underground room and put in all the services you could probably move into a detached house in a better area. Not everyone would want another room in their garden when you came to sell.

  9. OK then, go ahead and build it.

If you grow weary of digging, come and read awhile: http://es.shvoong.com/writers/laclaire/
