Question:

Should I buy Vista? Or stick with XP?

Lately, I have lost my XP CD, which had contained the OEM license on it. To be honest, I really like XP, but if my OS ends up getting a virus, then I would need to re-install the OS! And without the CD and license key, its not possible.

Therefore, I have no other choice but to buy a new OS. My PC powerful enough to handle 64 bit OS's, so I shouldn't have no problems with Vista.

But as I stated earlier, I REALLY like XP. Therefore, in conclusion, I can either buy: Windows XP Professional (currently have Home Edition), or Microsoft Vista Premium.

Oh, there's also much more to it. I have had soooooo many mixed reviews. 50% say buy Vista, 50% say stick with XP. I need a clear answer for this one.

  1. get xp.

Only thing vista seems good for is protecting against virus' better than xp.

  2. stick with XP [buy another copy if you can find it] as vista is still not fully tested and it is incompatible with a lot of programs.

and if you get a virus you will also need to reinstall vista, just get a anti virus program.

  3. XP is far more reliable than Vista. I've been on Vista for all of 28hours, and I totally abhor it. Loading files into my system caused the whole computer to slow to a speed where all you'd want to do is throw the computer into the bin. I'm sure I don't need to extoil the virtues of XP.

  4. I have both,XP,and VISTA ,(on different comps)

I prefer XP,for the simplicity of use,

and I hate VISTA,for the over kill of security.

Both have their good, and bad side,

    but for ME,,it's XP.

  5. xp, but I recommend buying a mac ;-)

  6. XP is by far better, Vista causes to many problems.

  7. i suggest u buy a mac. but if ur comp is powerful enough to run a mac, i suggest u use it. as it is faster and also more stable. vista is good too but it is slow and requires a lot of Ram and HDD space. Xp is the best choice if u cant buy a mac

  8. XP is being pulled from the shelves. In fact, my mother in law just tried to get an XP computer repaired through Dell and they refused because they can no longer get what they need. They shipped them a new computer with Vista.

I have had Vista for over a year with NO problems. It depends on what you do with your system on which would work better. Personally, if your computer was built to run Vista it would work great, if not...well then it probably won't.

**ETA**It was supposed to be have been pulled June 30.

about cmealy's issue with MS Office and Vista, her problem is something else and NOT because she runs Vista. My husband and I send MS Office docs back and forth all the time. I have Vista while he has XP Pro. She is, however, correct about the differences between the two. My husband has a very difficult time on my computer.

  9. Buy Vista Ultimate it like XP pro but such a bit more complicated for Beginners.

New programs mostly suited for Vista.

  10. stick with xp, vista takes up a lot of memory and it has annoying features on it and and its not as stable as xp was.

  11. both are garbage

  12. I have had both and as far as an operating system there is no down side to going with the newer of the two. If you are going to buy Microsoft Office - stick with XP! Vista cannot be opened by anyone that does not have it so if you send a doc that was created in Vista to someone that has another version....too bad. It is frustrating! Plus they have changed so many things around that there is a HUGE learning curve.
